A Reminder from Nurse Kuka
April 29, 2021
Dear Glenham Families,
If your child presents with any of the symptoms listed below, please keep your child home from school and contact the nurses office for guidance.
Here is the link to the state guidelines: https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/system/files/documents/2021/02/nysdoh_prekgr12_toolkit_update-020121.pdf
According to the NYS guidelines, if your child presents with ANY of the symptoms stated below they will need medical clearance before returning to school.
COVID SYMPTOMS:
- Sore throat
- Feel feverish or have chills
- Nausea
- Cough Fatigue/feeling tired
- Vomiting
- Runny nose
- Loss of taste or smell
- Diarrhea
- Nasal congestion
- Muscle pain/body aches
- Fever
- Shortness of breath
1) If your child is evaluated by their health care provider, a clear diagnosis needs to be stated. The doctor can not just state that the student is cleared to return to school or that the student had just a common cold. A clear diagnosis is needed as per the state guidelines.
2) If the doctor orders a COVID test, a negative PCR test is needed in order for your child to return to school.
3) If your child is not seen by their provider, they can not attend school for 10 days.
It is also currently allergy season! With that, many children develop runny noses, sneezing, itchy eyes and throat, etc. If you anticipate your child developing any of these symptoms as a result of seasonal allergies, please contact their physician and provide the nurse with proper documentation.
Please be advised that due to HIPPA regulations, I can not share your child's medical records with the attendance office. A note needs to be provided in order for your child's absence to be considered a 'legal absence'.
Thank you so much for your time and your cooperation! Following the state guidelines will allow us to keep our students safe and to keep the schools open!
Best regards,
Aida Kuka, RN
