Five Helpful Apps for Back-to-School in Fall of 2020
Back-to-school in the Fall of 2020 has all of us feeling a bit concerned, uncomfortable, and unsure; however, our kids are looking to us to provide the stability and reassurance that they need and expect. While internally we may be panicking and overwhelmed, we are all trying to present a calm outlook for our kids. Many of us have now taken on the job of “learning coach” or even “homeschool teacher” to our ever-increasing list of roles.
Luckily, technology has kept up with those demands as well and there are Apps which are here to make our lives a little easier.
Here are a few that look useful for this Fall:
- Headspace - this is a meditation app designed for kids. It is user friendly, has fun cartoons, and teaches kids how to meditate. Available on iphone, ipad, Apple Watch and Android and costs $12.99/month or $94.99/year.
- Freedom - this app blocks all of those apps which are so addictive and steal your time from you - social media, shopping, video games, etc. Allow you to choose which sites you want to block and which to allow. Available as software, on iPhone and Android and costs $6.99/month or $119/lifetime.
- myHomework - this app helps keep track of assignments, projects, and tests, tracks classes, reminds you when assignments are due, and easily syncs between all devices. Available on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Android and as a Google Chrome App. It is free.
- 30/30 - A basic task timer. This app lets you know when to move on to the next task. Perfect for those who are goal-oriented or for those of us who need to know when it is time to take a break. Available on iPhone iPad, and Android. It is free.
- Bookly - this is a reading app which allows kids to keep track of the books that they read, the number of pages read, and the amount of time spent reading. Kids can scan the ISBN number and the app lets kids save notes and key quotes. Available for iPhone, iPad, and Android and it is free.
These are just a few apps which can help you and your kids this year but there are others out there. Ultimately you have to decide what you need for you and your family, but don’t feel guilty for looking to technology for help. We all could use some help right now and if it is as easy as an app then let’s use it.
Have a great Back-to-School and great Fall 2020.
