Cannibalism
Cannibalism is when one type of the same species eats the same species. Example: When a human eats another human. Or, when a ladybug eats another ladybug. You can tell from that definition that cannibalism is a horrible thing.
In the Westward Expansion, people hunt and then they ran out of food. Then, they started killing people and eating them.
I bet you think that is gross. It was the only way to survive.
Would you do the same?

The Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana Purchase happened on July 4, 1803.
France purchased Louisiana. Louisiana cost 15 million dollars.
The United States bought 828,000 square miles of land from France in 1803. French controlled this region from 1699-1762. France revived the aspirations to build an empire in North America so, their territory was taken back in 1800.
The United States wanted to buy New Orleans and the land around it.
The French and Indian War
George Washington and his soldiers were not able to reach Fort Duquesne. In the woods near Fort Duquesne, George and his soldiers defeated a group of French soldiers.
Later, the French attacked on a rainy day in July 1754. Soon, Washington was forced to surrender. Washington and his soldiers returned to Virginia.
The small battles were the start of a long war between Britain and France. The war was called The French And Indian War because Britain forces fought against the French and their American Indian allies.
Consequently, British tried to gain Native American allies of their own.
The British won the French and Indian War.
