Learning the Ropes
The first six weeks is always an exciting, busy time.
Mrs. Rother and I are getting to know our new students, and they are learning third grade routines and procedures.
A big part of what I do in reading class is The Daily 5.
If you are interested in learning more about it, you can visit this webpage:

Daily 5
Part of our reading program is the Daily 5, where kids have choices of reading activities and rotate throughout the week. Here you see some kids reading to each other from Fangbone: Third Grade Barbarian.
Prefix or suffix?
We practice many skills by playing games. The kids are quizzing each other on affix meanings during this game.
Uncle Sam
This game is a take on the classic "Old Maid". Students had a hoot matching government vocabulary and pictures of our elected officials
The kids really liked this "Smart Songs" rap about the three branches of government.

About me
I was born in Northern Michigan, and have lived in many different places in my life, including Calgary, Alberta. I graduated from Francis Marion University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in French, and went on to earn a Master of Arts in Teaching from the College of Charleston. This is the start of my ninth year in teaching. I previously taught middle school math and science for five years in Charleston, South Carolina. I love working with elementary students and feel lucky to be teaching in Granger. I am married with two children, Oliver and Daphne. In my spare time I love to read and hang out with my family. I'm also interested in many hobbies that I don't actually have time for, including: raising chickens, pottery, teaching myself how to draw, macrame, face painting, gardening...
