MBHS Spanish 1- Señora Wells

Welcome to a New Year!

New Beginnings

Hola! My name is Cathy Wells and I will be your child's Spanish 1 teacher this year at McKinney Boyd High School. This year will be my 15th year of teaching! I can't believe how time flies!! This is my first year at Boyd, before this I was teaching Spanish at Cockrill Middle School. I am a mother of two amazing boys: Clayton is 14 years old and goes to Cockrill and Cristian is 4 and is in pre-school here at Boyd. We are usually at the ballfields every weekend :)

I was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and I'm a former Army brat and have lived in many states and even Germany twice! We settled down in Lawton, Oklahoma and I graduated in 2001 from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Language Education.

Expectations

If you have ever taken a foreign language before, you might notice that I do things a little differently. I rarely use the textbook for assignments and we don't take pages of notes where we talk about the language. I use storytelling to teach key structures and there is quite a bit of repetition in lots of novel ways. Students will need to do a lot of active listening in order to learn Spanish. Your child will be expected to participate by paying close attention to me, following my gestures and letting me know if I'm going too fast.

By the end of the first week of class your child should be able to introduce themselves, ask someone's name, and ask how they're doing. They might even be able to sing a song or two by Friday!
