Need to Know
Due tomorrow! Apply to be a Middle School Leader in Grade 8! Ms. Corbie emailed Grade 7 students last Friday with details on how to apply to be a leader for the 2023-24 school year. These leadership positions require a commitment of time, energy and effort. An interview process will take place after applications are received. The application deadline is Friday, April 28.
Intensives Week Video and Photos: Students met for one final time this week to share their experiences with each other from the April 3-5 week of Intensives courses. Middle School Exam Schedule: MS Exams will be held on three days, June 12-14, with all students writing each morning from 9- 11am. (Students permitted to write until 11:40am will be notified directly.) View the MS Exam Schedule HERE. Students may only arrive 10 min before each exam and will be dismissed after the exam is finished. No lunch is served on exam days. More detailed guidelines for writing exams will be provided closer to the exam period.
In Class Assessments: in addition to the June exams, MS students will have several in-class assessments throughout May and June. Parents and students can continue to check their mySelwyn Assignment Calendars to stay informed about assignment details and dates.
Study Skills Workshops for MS Students: As part of our study challenge and preparation for end-of-year assessments, Mr. Roy will be offering Study Skills workshops to all Grade 7 students during ERC classes in the first week of May. Grade 8 students can join an optional workshop on Tuesday May 16 during lunch recess. More details will be shared with students next week!
Selwyn House Arts Festival 2023: Between May 2-12 join us for live music, visual arts displays and dramatic presentations! Save the date for Wednesday (May 10) evening's MS Play performance "10 Reasons You Should Have Stayed Home Sick Today" which will feature a cast and crew of 17 Grade 7&8 students. Earth Week Challenges: The Prefects are challenging all Selwyn House students to participate in a sustainability initiative during the week of April 24-28. Students can tag @SelwynStudentLife on Instagram and use the hashtag #SelwynGoesGreen to showcase the initiatives they are taking on. There will be a draw and prizes for winners! Click here for the list of sustainability initiatives. Also, Friday, April 28 there will be a school free dress where students are asked to dress in earth tones to represent earth week.
Community Engagement Update: As of Monday, May 1, Ms. Michelle Segal will be on maternity leave. We wish her well as she is expecting her first baby in May! We are happy to announce that Ms. Eden Schwartz will be replacing Ms. Segal as Community Engagement Coordinator starting May 1st and throughout the next school year. Should you have any questions about community engagement programming, volunteering or the Duke of Edinburgh Award Program, please direct them to Ms. Schwartz.
Duke of Edinburgh - Grade 8 only: The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award program is the world’s leading youth achievement award that empowers youth to make a difference while exploring their potential, taking on new challenges, giving back to the community and achieving success! Ms. Segal presented the Duke of Edinburgh program in Grade 8 core classes this week. This award program is available to each student once he turns 14. We often talk about VERITAS throughout the students' time here at Selwyn House, and The Duke of Edinburgh Award touches on all aspects of our mission and values. Please have a look at our Duke of Edinburgh webpage on the Selwyn House website for more information on the program, as well as step-by-step videos on how to register and log your hours. You can register as soon as June 1 and start working towards your Bronze award. Please reach out to Ms. Schwartz if you have any questions.
Echoes of a Proud Nation Pow-wow in Kahnawake - July 8-9: Families and staff are encouraged to attend this summer’s Pow Wow in Kahnawake. As part of our commitment to learn more about Indigenous history and culture, this is a great opportunity to experience an event that is open to all!

Summer Camps: Summer is fast approaching and we are proud to offer a wide variety of summer camp options! Invite your friends, cousins and sisters to join a fun and enriching camp experience. Save the Date! A Middle School Closing Celebration will take place Thursday June 15 from 4-5pm. All Grade 7&8 students as well as their parents will be invited to join us that afternoon for a short closing in Coristine Hall followed by refreshments. We will provide more details soon!
