This Week In MJS Third Grade...

Dear Third Grade Families,

Our team had an enjoyable evening with our third grade parents. Thank you for making the evening a memorable one! We are definitely looking forward to a fulfilling year of learning and teaching. We hope you had an opportunity to visit the new DLab as well. Enrichment classes are underway as we have started keyboarding camp in technology with Mr. Vasquez - each class will cycle through over a period of three weeks at a time - and introduced recorders in music with Mr. Roberts. Please be sure to check our online third grade website for updated parent resources later this week. This website is your primary resource for all that is MJS Third Grade 2016-2017.

Again, if you have any questions we can assist you with please feel free to contact your Third Grade Team!

Have a wonderful week!

Spelling City - An Online Resource for Spelling This Year In Third Grade!

All third graders are entered under our third grade class program for Spelling City. SpellingCity provides spelling, vocabulary, writing, and language arts activities for K-12 cross-curricular word study. Spelling City user names and passwords have been distributed and recorded on the inside cover of each student's planner. Spelling City is an additional resource for spelling practice in this year's spelling curriculum. It's a lot of fun and offers an engaging alternative for studying the weekly spelling list.

Deepening Our Learning...

*Religion: Celebrating The Year Of Mercy - Faith In Action: Using the Gospel of Luke we focus on faith in action and prayer. We start off the year learning about following Jesus' teaching by asking our students to notice and learn about each other, and celebrating our common faith.

*Social Studies: "Our Place in the World"--- Study of the Earth's surface and the ways people use it

*Language Arts: September starts with a review of comprehension skills for summarizing and retelling. In writing, the Writing Process has been introduced and implemented as our students finished their first writing piece, "All About Me" for Back-To-School Night. Focus on the use of graphic organizers and elements of technology are part of the writing process this year. In grammar, a review of subject, noun, verb plus types of sentences are highlighted as we begin to go deeper into language arts.

*Science: Mrs. Crepaux leads the third graders in an exploration of the solar system during our science enrichment classes on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
