STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
This week the we had our first Symphony Orchestra rehearsal with the wind ensemble and strings combined. They sounded FANTASTIC! The Fernwood Symphony Orchestra will compete on March 7th in New York City, in the Big Apple Classic Festival.
WHAT ARE YOU THANKFUL FOR?
The Gold Team made a Gratitude Tree, because there is always something to be thankful for! Each student and all the teachers decorated leaves saying what they were thankful for and posted it on the tree.
SIERPINSKI'S TRIANGLE
Mrs. Wenzel's Self eSTEAM Club learned about fractals and the famous Sierpinski's Triangle by building a Sierpinski Pyramid! Not only did they get to be creative and create fun triangular designs, but they also were about to design their own pyramid to represent their unique traits.
ROAD TRIP WITH FMS WIND ENSEMBLE
Mr. Spatz and the FMS Wind Ensemble traveled to Rowan University this week. Students participated in an undergraduate conducting class, worked with Dr. Joe Higgins, Rowan’s Director of Bands, and even learned how to conduct the band!
ROLE OF THE COLONISTS
Mrs. Yaffee's students took on the role of colonists and created boycott signs to showcase the frustrations the colonists had with the British Government during the years before the Revolutionary War. Students then got to march and protest around the school!
STEAM ACTIVITY
Mr. Medica and Ms. Blaine's Science classes built Earthquake Resistant Towers. The STEAM activity focused on having the students work in small groups to research, plan, design, construct, and then test a tower that was intended to be resistant to earthquakes from 2.0-7.0 on the Richter Scale. The students worked very hard and some were able to create towers that could indeed stand up to earthquakes of these magnitudes. The entire STEAM activity was a ground-shaking success!
