Principal's message - summer

Greetings North Plains Families!

It's hard to believe that July is over and school will begin in a few short weeks! I hope you are all enjoying some time with family and friends, and perhaps a bit of rest and relaxation! I had a wonderful trip to Uganda (see a few pics below) and am happy to be home! If you are ever interested in hearing more or seeing more photos, I'm happy to share!

If you have friends or neighbors that have not yet registered for school, please encourage them to do so as soon as possible! There are registration forms on the district web site and our office will open on Aug. 16 at 8:00 AM. I am here in the building as of now however, and will happily take forms from anyone who drops by!

Some of you have inquired about the school supply list for the upcoming year. Here is the link for the current list: One thing you will notice is earbuds for students in grades 3-6 as they do a lot on line now, and they are also useful for state testing. I see supplies on sale at local stores already, and I know many of you are anxious to get this task out of the way!

This year we are having our "Stop, Drop, and Smile" event on Wed., Aug. 29 from 5 - 7 PM. Joanna Mehaffey from Columbia Bank will be supplying pizza for us again, so stop by, meet your teacher, and have some pizza! Teachers will have handouts for you to talk about the structure of their classroom for the year as there will not be another "Back to School Night" in Sept. as in years past. Feel free to email your child's teacher if you have questions or concerns after that evening.

Speaking of teachers, this year I'm going to attempt to do something a bit different. Instead of mailing out postcards, I'm going to send out emails to you with the name of your child's teacher. We'll have lists available the night of the 29th for those that don't get email, but hopefully this will be a quick and easy way to inform you of your child's teacher for the year! That email will go out by Friday, Aug. 24, if not before.

On Friday, Sept. 7, is our annual Glow Golf Tournament at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course. We are in need of volunteers to work this fun event so if you are able to join us, please use the following link to sign up! Last year we made about $7000.00 at this event!

Our next big event is the fund run on Friday, September 28. This event takes place during the school day and we definitely need volunteers! A link to sign up to volunteer at this event will be coming soon!

There is much more to tell you, but I don't want it to get lost in a long newsletter so I'll end for now. Please watch for future emails with important info about pictures, our Right Brain artist for the year, PTO meetings and events, and much more! And as always, please reach out if you have questions or concerns.

Enjoy these last weeks of summer!
