Husky Happenings

February 11 - 16

From Mr. Martin

I am looking forward to parent-teacher conferences. Our big focus will be MAP data from August and looking at growth thru December. A few general comments: Taking an interest in your student’s MAP data is a great way to show interest in their academic growth. Simply attending conferences, asking questions, and acknowledging growth are huge steps in validating that school is important and academic growth is taking place. I continue to stress that these moments with your student do not last forever. Please continue to show interest in your child’s academic growth and enjoy this process.

I just wanted to touch base regarding fees and Skyward. Please be aware that the only fees TRMS adds are generally related to Chromebook repairs and athletic passes. During parent teacher conferences, ask about fees and we can explain. It is best practice to keep this balance at zero. The worst case scenario is waiting until your senior year and facing this nightmare. We do directly address this issue with Grade 8 parents during the spring of this year just prior to high school.

We will reschedule “Parenting in the Digital Age.”

From Nurse Rhea:

February is National Children’s Dental Health month! Do your kids get tired of hearing you ask them if they brushed their teeth? What kids don’t realize is that daily reminders turn into daily routines, and routines turn into habits. An unhealthy mouth, especially gum disease, may increase their risk of serious health problems such as heart attack, stroke, and poorly controlled diabetes. Visiting the dentist for a check up and teeth cleaning once every six months, and brushing twice a day can help keep their mouths in tip-top shape! Hopefully these healthy habits will last a lifetime.

If you are the parent of a current 6th grade student, please remember that the Tdap vaccine is required for entry into the 7th grade. Documentation of this vaccine can be sent in at any time, and will alleviate some of the stress of starting a new school year in the Fall.
