February 19th-22nd
Highlights from our week:
Shared Reading - This week our class read the story Move Over by Joy Cowley. Students enjoyed hearing another story from an author they recognized from previous lessons. This story helped students evaluate the feelings of characters and cause/effect.
Writing - Our focus for writing has returned to working on personal narratives or stories that have a clear beginning and ending. Students will be writing their own stories to include these parts and key details for the remainder of February. Students that have not finished their non-fiction writing project will continue to work on them until they are completed.
Social Studies - Due to President's Day on Monday, our class spent time this week learning about the President's job, how President's Day was created, and read two nonfiction books about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
Math - This week our class continued learning about 2D and 3D shapes. Students practiced sorting these shapes based on their attributes and identifying the names of each shape. Students in our class are particularly excited about the Cone and Pyramid shapes. This week we identified 3D shapes in our environment and created a class list of real world objects that match the following shapes: sphere, cone, pyramid, rectangular prism, triangular prism, cube, and cylinder. Students will complete an assessment on these concepts next week.
