A Message from Mrs. Akers
Redhawk Families,
We continue to miss seeing our Rennell Redhawks every day! We hope you and your family are doing well and taking precautions to stay safe and healthy. Working and learning at home together has its challenges, but we are here to help and support you! Teachers will continue to be available from 9 am-2 pm Monday through Friday should you or your child have any questions or need help with their learning - whether online or paper packets.
Many teachers are trying to communicate with your children through their google classrooms or seesaws, flipgrids, and other methods, but are having trouble getting students to respond. Please remind your child to check-in with their teacher to ask questions and get support with their learning. If you're not sure how your child is suppose to check-in with their teachers or request support, don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher. If they don't hear from your student, they will be calling you because we want to make sure we can support your child's learning.
Again, we truly miss being together, but are still here for you! We are all working and learning differently; however, we will all work together to help our students be successful!

Tips for Learning at Home
This is new for all of us, but here are some tips that Rennell staff members have shared that might help you as you facilitate learning for your child at home:
- Create a daily schedule and post it
- Put the toughest tasks early on in the day when your child's mind is most ready to focus and learn
- Provide your child with a checklist so they can see what they've accomplished and what's left to do for the day
- Don't feel like you have to get through everything provided by the district
- Ask your child's teacher what to prioritize for them
- Include excerise daily
- Include FAMILY reading time! While we do encourage students to read independently everyday, research shows that being read to is almost as powerful for growing readers.
- MOST IMPORTANTLY: Don't be too hard on yourself or your student. Don't compare yourself to others. This is new for EVERYONE and there is no one way or right or wrong way. Just do your best to keep your student engaged and learning everyday.

Counselor's Corner
Redhawk families,
In the midst of all the crazy news conferences, social media postings, and overwhelming conversations, little eyes are upon us confused and wondering what tomorrow will hold. As educators and counselors, we chose our careers to help students feel safe and happy at school. This pandemic has hindered us from doing our jobs as we do wish we could. Although we are not there physically with you and your children, please know we are with you emotionally and are only a phone call, text, or email away to ease any fear or anxiety your child might feel. Even though this is not what we envisioned for these past few weeks we hope that our RedHawks will remember all the new adventures they have been able to enjoy with their families. We are your counselors and we are both mothers with small children, and know the challenges that it can bring but know it has also brought us to having 3 meals together everyday, more board game sessions than we had ever imagined, and a chance to sit- slow down and cherish this extra time with our children as a gift.
We are all in this together, so if you ever need us we are here for you! Our google voice numbers receive calls and texts so feel free to reach out!
