School Disaster Communication Project--Invitation to Participate in a Survey
Below is information regarding an important project related to disaster communication in schools. The superintendents were provided this information in a recent communication. Please complete the survey and also forward this information to anyone in the school who may be willing to participate. Participants will be provided an electronic disaster preparedness resource prepared by the research team.
Survey Information:
Researchers at the University of Maryland are conducting a study on behalf of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene on effective school disaster communication. Specifically, they are interested in learning more about communication plans in school systems in order to better develop suggestions and plans for effective disaster communication in K-12 schools. The Maryland State Department of Education, Division of Student, Family and School Support is supportive of this project.
To gather information on this topic, they are conducting an online survey, which should take no more than 30-35 minutes. Once the survey is complete, you will be eligible to receive a school related disaster preparedness resource for your school. You are invited to participate in this research project because you are a Maryland school superintendent, principals, teacher, health officer, or nurse coordinator and are above the age of 18. Your participation is optional and you may refuse to complete the survey; however, we encourage you to participate. Please feel free to forward this information to any colleagues who also meet those qualifications.
Below is a link to participate in the survey. I urge you to participate in this very important project. If you have any questions, please contact Cheryl De Pinto, MD, MPH Medical Director of the Office of Population Health Improvement at DHMH. She may be reached at 420-767-5595 or cheryl.depinto@maryland.gov.
