Compass Family Update
March 26, 2015
Family Conferences Are On March 26th and 27th
Students will be dismissed at noon on March 26th and 27th to allow teachers to have time to meet with families.
YMCA Afterschool will run from noon until 6pm on March 26th and 27th.
We will also provide childcare for Compass students and siblings during Family Conferences. Please bring your child/children to the "Fun Zone" in the Community Room when you come for your meeting. A Compass staff person will be there to supervise.
Next Week is Compass Spirit Week!
We are excited to announce the first ever Compass Spirit Week will be taking place the week of March 30-April 2.
What is Compass Spirit Week?
Compass Spirit Week is a celebratory week to show our Compass Spirit and dress up in student-selected themes for each day.
Why Spirit Week?
The purpose of spirit week is to bring the Compass Community together in support of our school. The week serves to get students and staff involved, excited, and working cooperatively and united on a common goal.
How will it work?
We asked each class to select one of our themes for the week...and the winning themes were:
- Monday 3/30: Pajama Day. Wear your coziest pajamas to school on Monday!
- Tuesday 3/31: Costume Day. Choose a favorite costume to wear on Tuesday!
- Wednesday 4/1: Favorite Color Day. Wear as much of your favorite color as possible on Wednesday!
- Thursday 4/2: Dress Up Day. Dress up in your fanciest outfit to wear on Thursday!
If your child would like to participate in Compass Spirit Week, they can dress up in the theme for each day (instead of wearing their Compass T-Shirts) !
We can't wait to see all of the Compass Spirit in our community!

PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR SNACK DUES
In order to provide snack to our students each day, we need to collect Snack Dues from each family once a month. The average cost of snack for each child is $10 a month. We ask that you contribute what you can, between $5 and $20 a month. If you are able to sponsor the cost of snack for another child, we would greatly appreciate it.
How to Send Snack Dues
Electronic Way to Send Snack Dues: Square Cash (click on the left side of the webpage for a short video on how it works and enter your cell phone on the right to get a text giving you $1 and a link to get started. Must have a debit card). After you get the text, all you need to do is enter your debit card information, download the app and type your email address. You are now ready to make and receive payments. To send Compass money, press "Send", select an amount and send the money to Todd's email address (todd@brooklyncompass.org).
If you would like to know how you can set up a recurring, monthly payment from your Citibank or Chase account, email Todd.
Non-electronic way to send Snack Dues: If you are not able to use Square Cash or are not comfortable using an electronic system, please send cash or a check (Made to Compass Charter School) in an envelope with your child's name and Snack Dues on the front.
One last note:
When using Square Cash or a check, please note for which month(s), i.e. “March Snack Dues" in the memo for our record keeping purposes.
Family School Collaborative (FSC) News:
Mark your calendars...our next FSC meeting is scheduled for Thursday 4/23 from 7-8 PM. Pizza and childcare will be provided. This will be a very important meeting where we make some big decisions about the future of our FSC...please join us!
If you have a specific idea or project that you would like the FSC to focus on next year, please plan to present it at this meeting. This presentation, or proposal, does not have to be overly formal, but just basic information about the idea, the goal, and any cost/needs associated with the idea. At the end of the meeting we will ask everyone to vote or prioritize what is most important to them. The results will inform how the FSC spends its efforts and funds going forward. Please e-mail a summary of your proposal to fsc@brooklyncompass.org by 4/16.
Do not hesitate to contact us with any questions at fsc@brooklyncompass.org!
