Murphy Middle School Choir

It’s time for The Murphy Middle School Choirs to present their Fall Concert Performances!


The Beginning Choir will perform in the Murphy Middle School Cafeteria on Thursday, October 12th at 6:00 PM. The MMS Harmaniacs and Melodivas will bookend the program with their Pep Rally pieces. The Murphy Advanced Choirs will perform at Custer Road United Methodist Church (6601 Custer Road, Plano) at 7:00 PM on Monday, October 16th. Livestream of the performance is available at https://www.crumc.org/media/watch-live/. Both the Beginning and Advanced Choir performances are Formal and free of Admission. We appreciate your support!

Athletics News- Basketball Tryouts

Parents,


If your 7th or 8th grade student is interested in trying out for basketball they must have their physical and medical history turned in as well as have all of their UIL rank one forms completed on-line. If you have any questions about paperwork please e-mail Coach Ragsdale at Travis.ragsdale@pisd.edu



We will have an informational meeting about basketball try outs for the students. During this meeting we will go over all the paper work, what try outs will look like, and talk about the try out dates and times. Any 7th or 8th grade student trying out for basketball needs to be at this meeting. If you can not attend the meeting please see Coach Ragsdale by the end of the day for information that you may of missed. The girls basketball information will be at 8:00 am on Wednesday morning October 18th. The boys informational meeting will be at 8:00 am on Tuesday October 24th. Both meetings will be held in the big gym. This meeting is for the students but parents are welcome to come hear the information as well. All parents must sign in at the front office before coming down to the gym.

MMS Environmental Club

This Saturday, Oct. 14,th is the City of Murphy’s Clean & Green Event from 9am until Noon at City Hall. This is a service provided by the City of Murphy and is open to all staff and students that attend MMS.


This is a drive-thru and drop off event. The Environmental Club members will help sort various recyclables such as : clothing, toys, stuffed animals, plastic bags, Styrofoam, carpet, light bulbs, electronics, batteries, even pots & pans. Document shredding will also be provided.


Thanks to Mr. Murtaugh, Mr. Hendrix and Mr. Vishwanath for helping the Environmental Club at the Clean & Green free event.

Whiz Quiz

Whiz Quiz T-shirts are $12.40 for all participants and parents. Please get your orders made by October 19th. This will help promote our love of learning. Whiz Quiz Rocks! Final orders due by October 19th

Volunteer Club

For Volunteer club and making charity boxes on November 9th, please donate to Mrs. McCutcheon the following for boys and girls age 2-12: empty shoe boxes, for boys and girls ages 2-12---big item like backpack/doll /truck, activity items/coloring books, small toys and books, and toiletries like toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, mirror, nail clippers, combs, brushes, and school supplies. Thank you!

Student Council

Student Council meets every Wednesday morning in E105. The sponsor is Ms. McAnderson. For info about the group events join the Remind group by texting @murphstuco to the number 81010

Math Counts Club

MATHCOUNTS Club will begin testing for the Preston Trail competition!


A series of three-40 minute timed tests will be administered in room J105 as follows:

Tuesday, October 17 – no calculator

Tuesday, October 24 – no calculator

Tuesday, November 7 – calculator (I will provide TI-84 school calculators. Students may bring their own MATHCOUNTS approved calculators.)

Tuesday, November 14 – make ups (This is for any student that was not able to sit for previous tests. Students will not sit for any one test twice.)


Testers will accumulate points based on the number of correct answers from the three tests. The top four students will represent the Murphy Middle School Team. The next six students will be able to compete as an individual. Winners of the Preston Trail competition will go on to the MATHCOUNTS State Competition in February

Organization Corner

Organization Corner is a place for students to get help with organizing and repairing their binder. It takes place in J102 at 7:50-8:20 every Thursday. Snacks will be provided

PACE Information

Is your student interested in participating in PACE next year?


Testing for consideration to be admitted into the Plano Academic and Creative Education (PACE) program for next school year will take place next spring. Referral packets can be submitted online or on paper by Friday, Jan. 12 to Ms. McAnderson in E105. If you have any questions about the process please contact her at melissa.mcanderson@pisd.edu. The online version will automatically send an email to her.

2017-2018 Reflections Program

A new school year has begun and the Murphy Middle School PTA is proud to announce the 2017-2018 Reflections program. The theme for this year's program is: Within Reach

Please see the attached flyer for an explanation of the program and a summary of the rules for each category.



Murphy Middle School won the award for the most student participation in Reflections among all the middle schools in Plano ISD, for the last 2 years!!

Let's keep the tradition going and make it 3 years in a row!


Entries will be due on Wednesday, November 8, 2017.


Entries can be turned in to the front office starting in mid-October. Each entry must be accompanied by an entry form, see attached file.


Additional entry forms will be available in the front office the week of September 18. A copy of the complete category rules can be found HERE.
