Remove the background from any picture
Remove.bg is a free tool that I learned about from Tony Vincent's Instagram feed. If you aren't;t subscribing to Tony's Instagram, you should be. Remove.bg does not require a login which makes it great for the classroom. It works on desktop and mobile devices.
Within about 5 seconds, Remove.bg’s artificial intelligence separates the people in the photo from the background. (it doesn’t work well with large group pictures). Remove.bg will show a preview of your new picture with the background removed. If it meets your approval, download it for free without any watermark or other identifiers on it.
Online.PhotoScissors.com
Online.PhotoScissors.com is a free website that you can use without logging in. It works better on the desktop than on mobile devices. Simply upload a photo. Use the green + tool to draw a line on what to keep. Use the red + tool to draw a line on what to remove. You don’t have to draw much because PhotoScissors’ algorithm does all the work of cutting away the background. You can download a PNG with a transparent background or you can upload a background image and then download the results.
By the way, you can do this in Apple's Pages, Keynote and Numbers using the Instant Alpha Tool.
DIY is a safe online community for kids to discover new passions
Awesome Skills for Awesome Kids
DIY is a free online community for kids (6-16) to learn new skills and find friends around the world who share their passions. DIY is a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for kids and families of all kinds, regardless of their age, learning ability, or educational background.
Every kid who joins gets a portfolio to share the awesome things they make and do. They also get access to the DIY Skill library—thousands of challenges and kid-friendly resources to inspire their next project, organized into earnable skill patches. DIY’s skills cover the spectrum of creative disciplines from Actor to Zoologist and everything in between. We believe kids are capable of teaching themselves anything, and we’re here to help!
DIY offers private adult dashboards for parents, teachers, and club leaders to follow along with their kids' skill progress and social activity.
For schools" All groups on DIY must be managed by a DIY adult account. For safety reasons, we create these accounts manually for all grown-ups interested in using DIY in their classroom or starting a DIY Club. If you are interested in setting up a group on DIY, please email us and request your adult account!
