Handbook Highlights and Signature Form
We will be featuring sections of the CHS Handbook periodically in our Newsletter. This is to highlight items of particular interest or those that we notice are coming as a surprise to students. This Handbook Highlight will feature our section on student parking and expectations around vehicles on campus. We are fortunate to have parking opportunities for students in the 11th and 12th grades, and students are generally appreciative and responsive to the criteria associated with obtaining and maintaining this privilege. Please take a look at the handbook language to familiarize yourself with these expectations.
We are also still collecting Handbook signature pages, which are required for all students at CHS. If you have not already done so please complete and submit this form.
CHS Open House- Wednesday, 9/22
We are excited to welcome all parents/guardians to Canton High School and to walk a day in the shoes of your student(s). The program will begin at 6:30 pm with a Principal's Welcome in the auditorium. Following that parents/guardians will be dismissed and follow the daily schedule. The schedule and a general overview were emailed to all families last week and posted to the Plus Portals page for reference.
News from the Tech Deck- Device Agreement Form, Optional Coverage and Reminders
Technology and Digital Learning Reminders:
If you haven't already, please fill out a Device Agreement for each student with a school-issued device. This link will provide you with 3 documents; Canton Public School's School-Issued Device Procedures and Guidelines, Canton Public School's School-Issued Device Agreement, and Optional Repair and Loss Accidental Coverage Plan. Once the device agreement is signed, you will be emailed the link to MySchoolBucks to pay for the fee for the optional coverage plan if you choose to opt-in.
The district has hotspot devices available to any student in need of internet support at home in order to engage in school work. You can fill out this form.
You can reach out to Julie Shore, Director of Technology and Digital Learning at shorej@cantonma.org with any questions.
Mask reminder- required indoors at CHS
We have been fortunate to have nice weather and students are taking advantage of our outdoor seating. Students are encouraged to enjoy the fresh air while they eat lunch as often as possible.
Optional MCAS tesing for current seniors
In April 2021, Massachusetts Commissioner of Education, Jeff Riley, recommended that the Board of Education modify the state graduation requirements for students in grade 12 (the class of 2022) so that they would not need to pass the English Language Arts and Mathematics MCAS to meet the state graduation requirement (as is already the case with the science and technology/engineering part of the requirement). Last year, participating in MCAS testing was optional for the Class of 2022 and some students took the exam for scholarship purposes.
This year, students in the Class of 2022 who choose to take the MCAS ELA and Mathematics tests for scholarship purposes or the Seal of Biliteracy may do so in November 2021. Some students in the class of 2022 took the MCAS for scholarship purposes in May 2021. Those students would not need to test again.
Students in the class of 2022 may participate in the November retests for any of the following reasons:
1. If they are attempting to qualify for the Adams Scholarship (The Adams Scholarship is based on first-time test scores).
2. If they are attempting to qualify for the Koplik Certificate of Mastery with Distinction Award (The Koplik Award is based on a student’s highest scores).
3. If they are attempting to qualify for the Massachusetts State Seal of Biliteracy.
If you are interested in taking the tests for this scholarship opportunity, please complete this Registration.
If you are not interested in the scholarship opportunities, Seal of Biliteracy, or taking part in either testing session, you do not need to do anything.
Thank you and please reach out to Assistant Principal Josh Fogel at fogeljo@cantonma.org with any questions.
