8th Grade Math

with Mrs. Crowley

November 30, 2015

The first trimester will be ending on Friday, December 4th. Aspen is current and up to date with all grades. Once again, if you have questions, I encourage you to speak with your child first and then follow up with me with any further questions and/or concerns.

The majority of our first trimester focused on Geometry Standards as we learned about transformations. We are now shifting our focus back to Algebra Standards and will spend most of the second trimester working on exploring functions, solving linear equations and solving simultaneous equations. I continue to post my online videos and notes through Google Classroom but the online text books also offers online tutorials, online practice, interactive practice quizzes and study guides.

In addition to continuing to use IXL, during December we will also be trying to complete the Hour of Code sponsored by ACME Corporation. We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. The basics help nurture creativity and problem-solving skills, and prepare students for any future career. Specific to the 8th grade Mathematics CCSS, this project will help us reinforce the standards of mathematical practice. If you or anyone you know has expertise in coding and would be interesting in presenting to my classes or helping on the days we are working on our Hour of Code, please let me know.

Once again, I encourage you to follow along on Instagram and Twitter to see more frequent updates as to what is happening in CPS room 05.
