Benjamin Spock was born in 1903 and died in 1998. Benjamin Spock's theory was very radical when he published his ideas in 1946. Beginning his book with the quote "You know more than you think you do." Spock believed that a parents instincts were enough to raise a child well. He wrote a book about everything you may need to know when raising your child but always restated that parents "know more than they think they do. Before Spock parents were told to not shower their childern with affection, they shouldnt kiss them,

Controversy
- Many physicians thought Spock's theory caused many young men to protest the Vietnam War because it was considered overly permissive or didn't have enough discipline. They thought his theory was raising children to be adults with free and easy lives.
- He was very outspoken about his opinion with the Vietnam War. He was very anti-war.
