April 14

Word Study

This week is a word study week. There will not be a pre/post test. We will be practicing making words plural by adding -s or -es. Also, students will work with changing word endings to make the verb correct in a sentence. For example: I play the piano. She plays the piano. He is playing the piano after school.

International Festival at Pattengill

International Festival: Thursday, April 17 6:30-8:30pm at Pattengill

A great showcase of international food, fashion and displays by various classrooms.

Field Trip - Real Life Farm

Please return the permission slip if you have not already. This full day trip is on April 21. Students need a sack lunch/drink for this trip. If you would like to attend, please send me an email or write a note on the permission slip. The cost to attend as a chaperone is $9.00.

How To Books

Before Spring Break in Writing Workshop students made an "expert list" of things they know how to do, or make, or play very well. We then selected one of these topics to plan out a "How to" book. This week we'll begin writing these stories. This is an exciting change for our class as we move from writing "small moment" stories to writing informational text.

Earth Day/Day of Service

Day of Service is Tuesday, April 22 We need parental assistance to make this a successful event for our students - they truly take such pride in beautifying our schools! If you have time to come assist, please send me an email and let me know which school you can attend and at what time. Please bring gardening tools with you when you come to help! If you have any questions, contact Adam Jurevicius Thank you!

Our class will be cleaning up school grounds on Tuesday April 22 from 2:00-2:45pm. Join us!

Great for practice - Fact Triangles

Expanding on the idea of fact families, you now have some fact triangles to practice with at home. By covering up one of the three numbers on a fact triangle, your student can practice facts.

For example: 7, 4 and 11 are a family. The 11 is at the top of the triangle.

Students learn to identify the missing or covered number on a fact triangle and then generate these equations.
