1st Trimester
Technology
Next, students used Keynote to create an Andy Warhol inspired Pop Art piece. Students use their portraits outlined them in black. They then used the fill tool to change the colors. Finally, they used the animation tool to create a movable masterpiece.
Fifth grade students created animated Memoji's and also worked in stop motion to design moving rock patterns.
Fifth grade used Keynote to make haunted houses. Their goal was to animated them by adding their Memoji's!
Finally, we started our collaborative STEM project with Miss Benson and Mrs.G. We can't wait to show you!
Gym
5th Grade has been working on cooperation, team building and sportsmanship throughout the different games and activities we have done so far. Each Gym class begins with warm up stations that consist of different exercises that the students rotate through to get their bodies moving. Next trimester will consist of different exercises for the students to learn.
Some of the themes and activities we have done so far include Memory Games, Relay Races, Rock, Paper, Scissors Tag as well as manipulative movements such as overhand/underhand throwing and catching. We are working as a group or individual for each game as well as being good sports throughout the duration of each gym class.
Next trimester, we will introduce more manipulative skills such as kicking, striking and hula hooping. This will help us Segway into the different major sports such as baseball, soccer, football and hockey, just to name a few.
Art Class
We experienced a Glass Blowing demonstration during our Art Field Trip to GoggleWorks Art Center early this month as well as working artists in their studios and a hands on mixed media art piece to create.
So much more in our upcoming months... designing the Year Book cover, our Legacy Art Project to the school, weaving, printmaking, sewing and more!
Music
Fifth graders explored rhythm and melody during the first trimester. They learned to play rhythms on drums and performed a cup-passing routine to the theme song from The Addams Family. They also practiced reading notes on the music staff with a football game and played melodies with boomwhackers. In addition, students reviewed how to play simple melodies on the ukulele by reading tablature notation.
Students have also been rehearsing for their winter concert since mid-October. They have practiced singing independent parts in harmony. For the concert, they will perform three songs together, plus a finale with the second, third, and fifth graders.
Next trimester, students can expect to continue playing melodies and chords on the ukulele!
