Homer HIGH-Lights
Volume 1, Issue 3, January 2013
Message from the Principal
Last month, our nation experienced the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School which gave us cause to closely review our own safety plan at Homer High. Safety is, and always will be, our first priority.
During our inservice day on December 21, the staff reviewed our safety plan and discussed possible changes to heighten the security on our local campus. We are also asking for your suggestions. Our next Site Council meeting will be held at 3:45 PM on Tuesday, January 8, in the HHS Library. One agenda item will be school safety. Your ideas and suggestions are welcome as we focus on providing a safe, engaging environment for our students. Happy New Year!
Getting to know...
Alayne Tetor is the new art, computer applications, and commercial publishing teacher at Homer High School. Originally from the Pocono Mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania, Alayne grew up with a deep appreciation for nature and outdoor activities. With the Poconos being just an hour and a half from New York City, she also grew up with the art, history, and culture of one of the greatest cities at her fingertips. What drew her to Homer was the strong artistic community within an amazing natural environment. She moved to Homer a year and a half ago from Anchorage, where she taught art at Steller Secondary School. Before Anchorage, she spent some time living in Talkeetna, Alaska, Aspen, Colorado, the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York, and Johnson, Vermont.
Alayne attended Johnson State College in Northern Vermont and then graduated from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania with a BS degree in Art Education with a concentration in drawing and painting. Prior to teaching art, she taught alpine skiing for ten years in Pennsylvnia, Aspen/Snowmass in Colorado, and at Alyeska. Alayne is also a certified yoga instructor through the Shambhava School of Yoga in Hawaii and she teaches classes for Kenai Peninsula College and Anahata in Homer. Students can sign up for her yoga FOL’s at Homer High School.
Alayne’s passions include drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics and all things creative as well as skiing (alpine, backcountry telemark and Nordic,) mountain biking, running, backpacking, yoga, cooking, and reading. She is interested in all things Alaskan - learning how to fish, drive a boat, and wear her Xtra Tuffs with style.
