Keeping Scott teachers in the KNOW!
January 13, 2016
Happy 18th Week of School!
Please read the district & campus news below. As always, let me know if you have any questions or would like to meet.
As students are learning and practicing new math concepts, it is important to remember that representations support and communicate thinking. Representations are not simply a crutch for struggling students.
Representing their solutions is one of the means by which students can communicate to others their mathematical thinking and clarify in their own mind what meaning lies in the mathematics. It is up the teacher to help students make the connection between the models and the mathematics. Only by making that connection will students truly understand and internalize the math. District ELAR PDs:
The new district ELAR PDs will be from 7:20-8:20 in the Admin Training Rooms. This is a change from the information previously shared with you. If you will be representing your team at the PD, please use the links below to register in Eduphoria.
- Kindergarten - April 1, 2016
- First Grade - March 25, 2016
- Second Grade - March 18, 2016
- Third Grade - February 26, 2016
- Fourth Grade - February 19, 2016
- Fifth Grade - February 12, 2016
During the PD, you will celebrate the successes you have had with implementing the ELAR cluster pre-assessments and the utilization of that data in developing common formative assessments. You will need to bring (1) an example of how you have used the ELAR cluster pre-assessments to create CFAs and (2) a technology device.
3rd-5th Reading Cluster 6 will be available on Eduphoria on January 22nd.
Please remember to cancel all subs scheduled for district PDs. The first person to send me an email that says "January" will get a free Sonic drink.
