Temperate grasslands are located north of the Tropic of Cancer (23.5 degrees North) and south of the Tropic of Capricorn (23.5 degrees South). The major temperate grasslands include the veldts of Africa, the pampas of South America, the steppes of Eurasia, and the plains of North America.

abotic and biotic factors

The Abiotic components of a grassland ecosystem are the non-living features of the ecosystem that the living organisms depend on. Each abiotic component influences the number and variety of plants that grow in an ecosystem.

Biotic:The biotic components of a grassland ecosystem are the living organisms .

The Climate

Temperate grasslands have hot summers and cold winters. Summer temperatures can be well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, while winter temperatures can be as low as -40 degrees Fahrenheit.

Relationships

Grasslands are areas dominated by grasses and forbs, and have few or no trees. Grazing and roaming animals occur in abundance. They occupy about one quarter of the Earth's land area.Less than 8 percent of all grasslands worldwide are protected. The lowest protection of any biome on earth is temperate grasslands, at less than 1 percent. This includes North America’s Great Plains.Grasslands are divided into two main types: temperate grasslands and tropical grasslands, commonly called savannas.
