Opportunities for K-12 schools not to be missed!

Time to celebrate - and collaborate!

It was time to celebrate on September 13 when I was conferred as a PhD graduate from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia. Over six years of work researching online global collaborative educators and pedagogical change finally came to an end.

As many of you know, my passion for connecting educators, connecting classrooms and connecting students has been strong for over 20 years. What I always knew to be a positive and essential curriculum-based practice in the classroom (online global collaborative activities) now has additional research to support the 'why' and the 'how'.

My challenge now is to take this research and apply it more fully to the work of Flat Connections in order to support schools globally. It is another beginning. Watch this space!

Global Youth Debates - Grades 5-12

Registration as soon as possible - before October 7

Digital handshakes and introductions until October 7

Global collaboration through until December

Final farewells and project showcase the week of December 9

Global Youth Debates is a global collaborative project created around research and formal debating that uses Web 2.0 tools to join students from diverse cultures for authentic debate.

Students in Grade/Year 5-12 debate on a global issue that will bring together diverse ideas, develop transferable skills and create lasting friendships. Debate topic for this semester will be determined once the final group of collaborating teams are known.

The topic is now set for this semester and aligns with current global issues around climate change.

"Children should have the power to affect global climate change"

Students/children are taking a stand -

  • What do YOUR students want to share and debate around this topic?
  • What localised issues can they bring to the debate?
  • How can they collaborate to foster better global articulation and understanding around the topic of climate change action?
