GEO BEE
For weeks our Geography Bee students were studying and learning more about our country and the world's geography.
A recent geography test determined that Elianna H., McAuliffe; does know her facts about geography as she became the winner of the bee that took place in school on January 17th. Also to be recognized is second place winner Rowan H. and third place Danzel S. Parents, grandparents and siblings were invited to watch student's hard work pay off in the final competition. Elianna will take another test online to see if she can qualify for the state level.
For the past eleven years, the fourth grade students of Hastings Elementary schools have participated in the Geo-Bee Club. The culmination of the three months of studying and discussion is a geography bee, sponsored by National Geographic.
McAuliffe teacher, Jodi Glazier, said that participation in each school's Geo-Bee Club is by invitation only and depends on a number of indicators such as test scores and interest in current events; enjoyment of looking at maps, atlases and globes; and showing interest in government and different cultures.
In Geo Bee, the students do a variety of activities to grow in their knowledge of our country and world. Each school's Geo-Bee Club meets after school for enrichment purposes. The kids are excited to have this opportunity to learn and grow beyond their normal school day.
