Information and Reminders
- I am sending home information for you and your child to be able to log into Raz-Kids.com. Your child will be able to read books on his/her level on the website.
- I will not be sending home a reader's response bag this week in order to give you extra time to try out Raz-Kids online.
- Mrs. Hix (Hayley's mom) has agreed to be the room mom for our class. I am sending home an information sheet for you to complete. If you would be willing to help Mrs. Hix, please complete the form and return it to school . I will then give the contact information to Mrs. Hix.
- I will also be sending home dates and times to sign up for a conference to discuss the first nine weeks progress. The list will come home some time this week.

Reading
Weekly Stories: A Musical Day and Dr. Seuss
Skills this week:
- reviewing words with the short e and short o sound (on, hen, sock, Ted, etc.)
- Identifying what a statement is
- Learning new sight words
- sequencing events in a story
- Using text features such as graphs, photos, captions, and labels
The students will have a spelling and sight word test on Friday this week. The students will need to practice the words from both stories (A Musical Day and Dr. Seuss ) if he/she uses spelling city this week.

Math
The class has started a unit on subtraction. We have been using counters of various kinds to learn the concept of something being "taken away" and an amount being left. This week we will focus on subtraction from 4, 5, 6, and 7 and writing a subtraction sentence up and down and side to side (horizontal and vertical).
Science
This week we will continue our unit on the scientific skills of observation, comparing and classifying. We will continue to use science tools such as hand lens, droppers, measuring tapes, and forceps.
Homework
Mon. - math sheet; study sight words; choose one way to practice spelling words (spelling words are a combination of 2 stories this week. If your child uses spellingcity.com, use the story A Musical Day and Dr. Seuss.
Tues. study sight words; choose one way to practice spelling words; no math sheet
Thurs. -take a practice spelling test in the spelling notebook; reading worksheet
Friday- No reader's response journal this week. Try Raz-kids online.
