From August to September
Welcome to the end of August! As we continue to march through the year, I want to remind you that school will not be in session this coming Monday, September 5th due to Labor Day. On June 28, 1894, Congress passed an act making the first Monday in September of each year a legal holiday. According to the Department of Labor's website, Labor Day is an annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American worker. This federal holiday recognizes the many contributions workers have made to America's strength, prosperity, and well-being. We hope you have a fun and safe holiday weekend.
Last week, our seniors utilized our beautiful lunch area for their senior presentations. It is amazing and gratifying to see all the wonderful goals and ambitions our young students have for the future. Additionally, two of our grade levels were able to visit the Moorpark College Makerspace for a preview of the exciting tools and activities they have available for our students. See some pictures from both great events below.
One of my goals for this year is to ensure we have a robust two way communication with our community. To that end, I will be holding "Principal Chats" every month. Please mark these dates on your schedule should you wish to attend:
- Wednesday, 8:45am: September 14th, November 9th, February 8th, April 12th
- Wednesday, 5:00pm: October 12th, January 11th, March 8th
I hope to see you at one or more of these sessions, please bring all questions and feedback!
Remember the beginning of the year papers are due to the office tomorrow! There are several extremely important papers that need to be filled out, please make sure they are returned to the office immediately.
As always, thank you for your support. Have a wonderful week Phoenix Families.

CLUBS
ENSC (Environmental Science Club)
ENSC Club (Environmental Science Club) is a collaborative discussion-based club that strives to educate our fellow students as to issues regarding the environment. Together we vote on and discuss topics that we are interested in, and organize projects to take initiative in creating a more eco-friendly school atmosphere!
TTRPG Club
The Tabletop Roleplay Game(TTRPG) Club is meant to be a safe environment where anyone who is interested in games like Dungeons & Dragons(D&D) or the Warhammer franchise can learn how to play these games. Meetings will be held every other week in Ms. Pistone’s room, TR-4, on Friday from 12:30 to 1:15. At these meetings, there will be help given towards learning the basics of playing, how to run a game, and how to create a game in D&D. There will also be a chance to learn and play games within the Warhammer Franchise at the bi-weekly meetings. Any campaigns run will be outside of school and club time; however, there are many campaigns planned that anyone is welcome to join if interested.
Coding Club
The coding club is a small community at HS@MC dedicated to teaching programming in a fun and exciting way. Learn coding both inside and out of club meetings by working on hands-on projects that you can make your own, and take on regional competitions with the club to test your skills as a team! Our club meets at 2 PM on Fridays over Discord. See the club's official website to learn more: https://hsmc-coding-club.github.io/
Math Club
The High School at Moorpark College math club is a space for students at all levels of math to collaborate with each other on independent math study or homework. They can encourage others to learn more and students with more experience in math will be there to help tutor others with math.
Korean Culture Music Club
We are the Korean Cultural Music Club, with the goal of spreading Korean culture around the school through music. We're aimed at individuals interested in Korean culture or music and want to clear up misconceptions people may have about K-Pop and other traditional music. We will meet both semesters, once a week on Mondays at the Junior/Senior lunch.
GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) Club
GSA or Gay Straight Alliance is an important student-led organization meant to promote equality and camaraderie between people of all genders and sexualities. We strive to be a welcoming and safe community where students can meet to discuss queer books, history, and their own experiences. Meetings are Fridays from 12:35-1:15 in TR4.
Art Club
Bring your artistic talents and passion for art and meet with other artists and art lovers every Friday in Mrs. Sandoval's room at 12:40 pm, starting September 9th.
Our focus this year is on a school mural, and each week the art club's work is featured in the HSMC newsletter. Art club also has wonderful opportunities for scholarships, collaboration in school events, guest speakers and showcasing art in the community! We hope to see you there. For more information, please email the club's president, Taylor Capozzoli at 5106965@mrpk.org
Red Cross Club
The HSMC Red Cross Club is centered around acquiring skills to handle emergency situations, learning about the healthcare field, and community service. There are many opportunities provided in the club, as each club meeting counts for community service hours and The Red Cross provides chances for scholarships and gift cards. The Red Cross also helps its clubs execute community events, such as blood drives, so there are plenty of chances to get involved and demonstrate leadership. Thank you for your interest!
