Read Around the Planet

This distance learning event is an annual event with thousands of boys and girls all over the planet sharing learning with boys and girls from different locations in the U. S. A. and abroad. This year, Mrs. Maurice's class "visited" boys and girls from Van Etten, New York and shared their Power Point reports about famous African Americans. Mrs. McPheeters' class shared their learning about nouns. They prepared riddles about different nouns and the class from Mexico, New York, guessed the riddles. They also sang an awesome song about nouns to their out of state friends. After a fifteen minute sharing session, the students ask one another questions about their school, state, or city. Mrs. Bankheads' class is paired with a class from West Virginia and they are waiting for their meeting to be held soon. Ms. Collins and her boys and girls watched Ms. Collins' sister, Ms. Calli Collins' class act out Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes. This was a surprise performance from Mill Creek Elementary School. When their remote school had to cancel, we were able to be their audience. The distance learning equipment is ready and waiting to be used by everyone. It is fun to see what other places are learning and our Comets are terrific at sharing.

Technology Showcase

On March 25, the annual technology showcase, featuring the technology activities in Richland One Schools, will be held at the Dreher High School Auditorium. The activities will begin at 5:00 pm and end at 6:30. The Instructional Technology Services team invites teachers and members of the community to attend and share in our technology successes.

April is School Library Month

Chad Crews, Book Fair, and Richland Library Family Night

School Library Month is the American Association of School Librarians' celebration of school librarians and their programs. The 2013 theme is "Communities matter @ your library."  Here at Caughman Road Elementary we will focus on encouraging families to get library cards from the Richland Library in April.  We will also promote the public library summer reading program so students can enjoy reading all summer while earning prizes and participating in literacy activities with the public library.  On April 23 Chad Crews will present a reading magic show, and in the evening a family night at the Southeast Branch of the Richland Library is planned.  We also have a spring book fair scheduled for April 9 through April 16.
