College/Career Day: Sharing Diverse Paths to Success

Greetings Parents, Partners, and Friends of Shiloh Middle School.

Shiloh Middle School invites you to participate in our College/Career Day: Sharing Diverse Paths to Success that will take place on Friday, April 21, 2023. We are working to cultivate leaders and learners who are agents of change and responsible citizens. Students strengthen their own voices as they learn to hear and respond to the voices of others. With that in mind, we feel it is important for our students to learn from the paths and experiences of others.

As a presenter you will prepare a 15-20-minute presentation for several of our classes. Students will be given the opportunity to ask you questions and we encourage you to share handouts or samples related to your profession or organization. If you are interested in participating CLICK HERE to fill out the participation form. Light refreshments will be served throughout the day and our presenters will receive lunch. Our activities for the day will be from 9:30 – 3pm. The participation form will allow you to select the session/s you will be available to present.

Feel free to contact, Nicole Carrington, nicole.carrington@gcpsk12.org if you have questions about our College/Career Day. We look forward to seeing you on April 21st.

Medical Authorization

A parent or guardian must bring any / all medications to the school and fill out a medication administration form. Students are not allowed to carry any medications with them at school or on the bus. This includes any over the counter medication, for example; cough drops, Tylenol, etc. If you would like your child to have any OTC medication left in the clinic, you must bring to school with a completed medical authorization form.

To give us authorization to give your student their medication you will need to complete the Medication Authorization Form. You may print it, complete it, and bring it in or you can pick one up to complete in the clinic. A separate form is required for each individual medication.

If your student requires an inhaler and/or an Epi-pen you will need to complete the appropriate form.

For your student to be permitted to carry their inhaler and/or Epi-pen on their person, their physician will need to complete the section of our form advising us of their authorization. If the student will be carrying their inhaler and/or Epi-pen on their person, we ask that you also provide the clinic with a backup in case one is needed.

Vaccination Clinic

Please look at the upcoming dates and locations for added vaccine clinics for those 7th and 11th grade students still requiring their grade specific immunizations.

GCPS has partnered with GNR Public Health to offer required vaccinations for students attending 7th and 11th grade. Through this partnership, students can receive Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis vaccine) and MCV4 (adolescent meningococcal vaccine). In addition to these required vaccinations, GNR will have limited supplies of flu vaccine and COVID-19 vaccines.

Families will need to provide proof of insurance for Tdap, MCV4 and flu vaccines. Students 18 years of age and younger who do not have health insurance will be eligible for vaccines at no charge through our mobile clinics under the Vaccines for Children program. COVID-19 vaccinations are available regardless of insurance status.

All Clinics are from: 3p-6pm

Inclement Weather Procedures

As we enter the winter season, it is important to know what to expect from GCPS in case of inclement weather. If weather conditions pose a potential safety concern, the decision to cancel school or delay opening might be made.

It is more likely for school to be canceled in the early morning — due to dangerous road conditions that formed overnight — than for school to let out early because bad weather is moving in.

If bad weather causes school to be canceled or dismissed early, public announcements will be made on GCPS TV, on the school system’s website (www.gcpsk12.org), on Twitter and Facebook, through SchoolMessenger calls and optional texts, and via metro-Atlanta radio and television stations. Full-day cancellations usually are announced by 6 a.m.

GCPS TV can be found on the following Gwinnett County cable channels:

  • Charter - Channel 180

  • Comcast - Channel 24 or 26 (depending on location)

  • Visit us on our GCPS TV app on Apple, Android, Amazon Fire, and Roku devices or view the live stream at GCPSTV.org

You can access current or potential weather hazards for north and central Georgia here.
