A LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Falcon Families!

I hope this weekend you were able to enjoy the beautiful fall weather! I get to enjoy time outside with my boys every weekend as their flag football coach - a role I never imagined I’d do - and it reminded me of all that we do for our kids and the different ways we show up as parents, guardians, and extended and chosen family for many people in our lives. I wanted to take a second to say thank you for all of the support you’ve shown your student and our staff over the last 7 weeks. I know that transitioning back to school hasn’t been easy for every family but when I see students making their way to classes, or chatting at lunch, I am honored that we get to be here every day to serve and be part of their lives.

I appreciate the feedback we were able to get on conferences but also at the Principal Chat meetings. We listened! We’ve created a way for students to choose their seats at lunch. The seat they choose (with a few constraints like sitting at a table assigned to their class during the lunch they’re assigned to) will be their seat for the rest of the semester. The semester ends the first week of February. This will help us with contact tracing and also give students an opportunity to sit with a friend or at least a familiar person. We are also going to do games during lunch to increase positive interactions during eating time. We want students to enjoy their experience here, but we also need them to be safe!

Another message I received during conferences was a desire to use lockers. I understand that students are carrying around a lot of items but we will not be able to use lockers at this time. I have asked staff and encourage you to talk to your student about what in their backpack is actually needed. I see some backpacks that are so packed they barely close! I have already talked to a few students about leaving extra electronics at home including handheld games, toys, and big headphones (unless needed to help with noise or work times).

Thank you for your ongoing support! Please reach out with any questions or concerns: kelly_laverne@beaverton.k12.or.us

¡Familias Falcon!

Comuníquese con cualquier pregunta o inquietud: kelly_laverne@beaverton.k12.or.us

TAG NOMINATION PROCESS

Nomination forms are available on the TAG Website.

Every year students are considered for Talented and Gifted services in the Beaverton School District. These services are provided by your child's classroom teacher(s). Oregon law and District policy define gifted students as those who score at or above the 97th percentile on a standardized, nationally normed test of mental ability and/or academic achievement in reading and/or math. Behavioral, learning, and/or performance information is also considered before a student is identified for TAG services.

If you think your child might qualify for TAG services, you may wish to complete the Parent Information Form that is available in our school’s office or linked here. Completing this form gives our school TAG Committee more information about your child, but it is not required. All qualified students will be considered regardless of the form’s completion.

Please complete and return the Parent Information Form to your child’s teacher.

Estimados Padres:
