Activities Department To Host Online Q/A For New Eligibility Website Registration
For the 2020-21 school year the Howell MSHSAA eligibility process will move to a completly online format. The new format is aimed at streamlining the process and making it quicker and easier for Howell student-participants involved in a MSHSAA sponsored activity to be cleared and eligibile to participate. This new format will make the entire process "paperless" and will also allow families to carry over information from year to year and across all family members. The new online eligibility website can be found at www.howellvikings.com on the right side of the page by clicking the "MSHSAA Activities/Sports Registration (Eligiblity)" tab. Below you can find a step by step guide that has been established to help Viking families complete the eligibility process.
The Howell Activities Department is encouraging all fall student-participants to go online and complete their eligibility profile through the new online registration website. Those that have questions or issues with the online registration process can then get help and have their questions answered on May 27th at 10:00 a.m. virtually by attending the Google Hangout at this link - https://meet.google.com/tcq-uvai-ajb
The process for completing the eligibility process can be found below. The Howell Activities Department is encouraging all fall student-participants to set up their profile this week so that any questions can be answered on May 27th during the Google Hangout.
Getting Cleared For MSHSAA Sponsored Activities/Sports At Howell
A Step-by-Step Guide to Participating in a MSHSAA Sponsored Activity/Sport
The following must be completed ONE WEEK PRIOR to the first day of practice/tryouts:
- ALL STUDENT-ATHLETES ARE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE ON-LINE REGISTRATION FOR EACH ACTIVITY/SPORT PLAYED
Register your family below. Use Google Chrome as your Internet Browser when accessing this website.
Reminder: All physicals must be submitted on these forms. This is mandated by MSHSAA.
Returning users: Use the username and password you created during your first family registration. Once logged in, you may click on the "Register" dropdown and register an existing student or add a new student to your family account. Remember to add each sport for each season they will be playing sports. To select more than one sport in that season, hold CTRL and select the sports. Each student should register for a sport that they might be trying out for/playing in that season.
The form will auto-populate the answers based on your previously submitted registration. Please review and update the answers such as insurance, medication, diagnoses, emergency contacts, phone numbers, etc. You may log in at any time to your family account if you need a copy of your student's physical packet.
- GET A PHYSICAL EXAM
This is the link to the MSHSAA Physical Packet you need to take with you to the doctor CLICK HERE FOR PHYSICAL LINK.
If a student intends to play a MSHSAA sponsored activity/sport for Howell, they must have a valid physical on file in the Activities Office prior to participation. Your MSHSAA Physical Packet may be uploaded to your family athletic registration account. If you do not have a scanner available to upload a PDF of these forms, please bring the full packet to the Activities Office, in person, so that we can upload them to your student's registration account. Please keep a copy of the full packet for your records.
THE ACTIVITIES DEPARTMENT DOES NOT ACCEPT FAXES FROM THE DOCTOR'S OFFICE OF YOUR MSHSAA PHYSICAL PACKET. YOU MUST BRING YOUR MSHSAA PHYSICAL PACKET, IN PERSON, TO THE ACTIVITIES OFFICE. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR MSHSAA PHYSICAL PACKET WITH ANY OTHER OFFICE.
Per new MSHSAA guidelines, a valid physical for the 2020-21 school year must be dated 2/1/2019 or after. All physicals are now valid for a period of two years from the date of issue unless otherwise noted by the doctor. For example, if the date of the physical is 3/15/2020, the physical will expire on 3/14/2022. The MSHSAA physical packet must be completely filled out and signed by a doctor. If any information or signatures are missing, the packet will be returned to be completed. Please check your MSHSAA physical packet before turning it in or uploading it to make sure it is complete. Incomplete paperwork will delay the ability to receive final clearance before the cut off date.
All forms must be completed here online & your MSHSAA Physical Packet uploaded (or brought to the Activities Office). This must be completed ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE START OF EACH SPORTS SEASON & NO LATER THAN THE FINAL CLEARANCE CUT OFF DATE FOR THAT SEASON.
- COMPLETE IMPACT TESTING
A student must be ImPact Tested every two years (Freshmen, Juniors or students new to Howell or new to athletics). Impact Testing dates will be communicated on www.howellvikings.com, on the @FHVikings Twitter account and in the Viking Insider.
- PAY ANY OUTSTANDING FINES PRIOR TO THE FIRST DAY OF PRACTICES/TRYOUTS
- EARN 3 CREDITS (PASS 6 CLASSES) THE PREVIOUS SEMESTER WITH A 1.5 GPA OR HIGHER
In order to be eligible students must earn 3 credits by passing 6 classes the previous semester and have a GPA of 1.5 or higher in that semester.
- OBTAIN FINAL CLEARANCE VIA ATHLETIC REGISTRATION WEBSITE
An email will be sent to the parent of the student regarding final clearance once the information has been verified. Those that do not receive an email within 3-4 days following completion should contact the Activities Office.
Special Physical Note:
The school shall require of each student participating in athletics a certificate of an issued physical signed and authorized by a physician, an advanced nurse practitioner in written collaborative practice with a physician, or a certified physician's assistant in collaboration with a sponsoring physician stating that the individual is physically able to participate in athletic practices and contests of his/her school. A student shall not be permitted to practice or compete for a school until a complete, signed certificate is on file at the school.
The medical certificate is valid for two years (730 days) from the date of issue for the purpose of this rule.
