Get orthodontic services, support the Madison playground fund

Bauer Dentistry and Orthodontics, owned by our own Bauer Madison family, have generously offered to donate $250 to our new playground fund for every single new patient that starts braces or Invisalign at their office between January 1 and May 31! Eighty new patients could bring Madison $20,000 toward building a new, accessible playground in the back of school. Their office is located on Roosevelt road in Wheaton. If you or someone you know is looking for these services, check them out and support the Madison playground fund!

Go Green to recycle holiday lights

The Go Green Committee will once again be collecting holiday lights for recycling. The collection box is set up in the school office and we’ll be collecting through January 19, 2018.

This collection is in partnership with the City of Wheaton. It will accept incandescent and LED lights and extension cords in any condition. The lights will be collected and then stripped and recycled for their copper and plastic parts. Any questions please contact the Go Green Club at gogreen@madisonschoolpta.org

Participate in the Wellness Bingo Challenge

The Health & Wellness Committee is sponsoring a Madison Health and Fitness Bingo Challenge for students beginning on Jan. 8, 2018 with a turn in date of Feb. 2, 2018. The Bingo card has instructions.

Coming soon: Program of Accelerated Curriculum and Enrichment (PACE) testing

For the 2018-2019 School Year, please note that all second graders will be screened for PACE in February 2018 using the Cognitive Abilities Test. More information will follow in December 2017. Parents of second graders who are eligible for further PACE testing based on the Cognitive Abilities Test and/or local assessments will be notified at the end of February. Testing will qualify students for the following 2018-2019 classes:


3rd Grade PACE Mathematics


3rd Grade PACE Reading



In March 2018, the PACE Office will host testing for currently enrolled in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. Students in grades 3-5 may be recommended for testing by their teacher and/or parent. The deadline for a parent to request PACE Testing is Friday, Jan. 12, 2018. This testing, which will include the CogAT 7 and subtests from the Iowa Assessments, will qualify elementary students for participation in one of the following 2018-2019 classes:


4th and 5th grade PACE Mathematics


4th and 5th grade PACE Reading


6th grade Fast Paced Mathematics


6th grade Fast Paced Language Arts


Please Note – Students currently in PACE program classes do not need to re-test for 2018-2019.


Students currently attending a private school and/or home schooled, but reside in the

District 200 attendance area, are also eligible for PACE program testing.


Testing will take place at each elementary school around the first or second week of March, and will be scheduled around mandatory PARCC testing. Parents who register their students by the Friday, Jan. 12, 2018 deadline will be notified by mail about specific testing dates and times prior to testing.

Help enhance education at your child's school

The Student Excellence Foundation has partnered with the Wheaton-Warrenville PTA Council in creating a Fund-a-Classroom, crowdfunding program, where educators can submit proposals for their classroom needs.

Your child wants to attend or host a party where alcohol will be present. How do you handle this? What are the legal implications for children who drink underage? What are the legal implications for parents who host parties where alcohol is present? Parents will learn the strategies to have conversations with their children that focus on the potential outcomes of attending a party with alcohol present and also how to help their child decline invitations to parties.

Support the butterfly garden

Do you have a passion for gardening? Would you like to see a butterfly garden put in at Madison School? The Go Green Committee is considering putting in a pollinator garden that would include native perennials and attract butterflies and other beneficial pollinating insects. The students would learn about how plants grow in the Illinois Prairie landscape and why these plants are important for many insects and birds as well as provide a beautiful garden space.


The garden would require some maintenance over the summer. If you and/or your family would be willing to commit to weeding once or more in the spring or over summer please contact the Go Green Committee at gogreen@madisonschoolpta.org

General Mills Box Tops for Education Challenge

Please save General Mills Box Tops and send them to the LLC. Madison earns 10 cents for every General Mills Box top. Thank you to Mrs. Spires for heading up this effort. Last year we purchased many copies of the new Rebecca Caudill, Monarch, and Bluestem Award Book Nominees.
