Healesville Primary School
NEWSLETTER
Edition 30 - Friday 20th September 2019
From the Principal's desk…
Well…… I can’t quite believe it. Third term has literally flown by. I want to start this newsletter by thanking everyone, the students, the teachers, school council, PACH and the school community for welcoming me and making this new role so enjoyable. I love being the principal of such a wonderful, caring and vibrant school. I am looking forward to help grow the school and make our school the one that people choose to attend.
We have had so many successful programs this term. A big thank you to Sharyn Borg for all of her work with the kinder/prep transition program. Also to all of our grade six students that have been visiting the local kinders to read stories and sing songs – a massive thank you. Not sure who enjoyed these sessions more the kinder students or the grade six students.
Again, I would like to thank all of the staff and Fenna Hogg for their outstanding work on our production ‘The Choice’ – it was amazing. It was lovely to receive quite a few emails from parents about how much they enjoyed the performance as well – these I passed onto the staff.
Due to a grant that Rosie House applied for we have had the high school students here most of the term, building a new sustainability area that includes vegetable gardens and a chicken coup. It looks impressive – make sure you go and have a look, it is behind the 5/6 building.
Next term is sure to be an extremely busy term with junior swimming, camps for 5/6 and 3/ 4 as well as other incursions, excursions and not to forget our whole school fun day. For information on all of our events for fourth term make sure you check the portal as all of these will be coming to you through this medium.
We have some changes happening in the classrooms next term. Tom Gamble will be back with his grade two class full time. Chris Kent will be on long service leave for the whole of the term – we wish him a relaxing and enjoyable break. Kelly Laidlaw and Sharon Gellert will be sharing the teaching of his class.
There will be a construction area established at the very start of term 4 around the ruins area to build permanent ramps. This was organised back in term two and is fully funded by the department. The temporary ramps will be removed and permanent ones constructed in their place. Access will still be available before and after school through the old gates but the area will be fenced off totally during the day. All of this work will be completed by the end of the year.
We also will be trialling holding assembly fortnightly and distributing the newsletter fortnightly. We will hold assembly at the normal time on a Friday in weeks 1,3,5,7,9 and 11. Our newsletter will be going out in weeks 2,4,6,8 and 10. There will still be all of our awards and performances at assemblies. It will only be the frequency of these that is changing as a trial for term 4, 2019.
Finally – I would like to wish everyone a safe, relaxing and enjoyable holiday. I look forward to seeing everyone back ready to start an action packed term on Monday 7th October.
Regards,
Tracey Robertson-Smith , Principal

CAMP AUSTRALIA - BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL CARE
This week at Before and Afterschool Care, Spring has Sprung! We are making foam daisies and displaying them on the side wall as well as making some blossom trees. Rolling tissue paper into balls is a good fine motor skill . Learning to make pom poms this also a good hand & eye coordination activity and looks great once finished.
The children will be helping the educators make cheese crepes or pancakes filled with either sultanas or apricots.
Friday is the end of term 3, and YES we are open from 2.15 pm for St Brigids students and from 2.30 pm Healesville Primary School students. After care will finish at 6.30 pm.
I hope you all have a safe 2 week holiday and we look forward to seeing you on the 7th of October.
Stacey, Bob and Ellie - Camp Australia, where we make children smile.
