Miss Barrett's 5th Grade Class
Update
Language Arts
New vocabulary words have been assigned. The students will have all of this week to study the words. The test will be early the following week. Vocabulary is mostly an independent activity. The students are given the words and plenty of time in class to find the definitions, synonyms, antonyms, and related words. They then must make some sort of study helper (most of them make flash cards). I do check their definitions, synonyms, antonyms, and related words before they start to study them. They are responsible for studying the words and being prepared for the test.
In writing, we are practicing writing paragraphs using text evidence. We are also writing friendly letters to a friend or family letter in conjunction with our Social Studies unit.
Science
How do you all feel about the online reading challenges the students have been doing for science homework? Are you having trouble logging onto the website consistently? I know online homework can be troublesome and I would love some feedback.
Social Studies
I hope you all got my email about the Colonial Feast we are planning! Thank you so much for all of you who so kindly signed up to bring something. The kids can't wait!
