A Message From Our Principals
Dear families,
As we entered into October, our routines were set and the buzz of student engagement filled our halls. We have worked hard to develop our multi-tiered systems to support the needs of our students both academically and socially. We look forward to sharing the growth your students have made at Parent Teacher Conferences in November. If you have any questions prior to conferences, please be sure to reach out to your student's teacher.

Bus Evacuation Drills
Safety is a main priority in District 47. October 11th, Glacier Ridge students will be practicing bus evacuation drills in all grade levels. Students will learn how to safely exit a bus in the event of an emergency.
PBIS - Postive Behavior Intervention and Supports
Second Step
To further help our school be a safe and respectful place, we will use the Second Step Bullying Prevention Unit to reinforce the PBIS pillars we continue to teach. Students will learn specific skills to help stop bullying by being responsible and safe.
5th Grade Read Aloud with Dr. Gruper
Two days a week during SEL time, the 5th grade class meets in the library to engage in a read aloud and dialogue with Dr. Gruper. A Rover's Story by Jasmine Warga tells the story of Res's (short for Resilience) exploration on Mars. Res is a Mars Rover with human emotion. As millions of people back home watch Res on Mars, they wonder if he will have the courage, determination, and resilience to succeed.
Holiday Share Bear
Throughout the school year, various agencies and community members are interested in helping families who are temporarily in need around the holiday season. If your family would like to
receive assistance, please review and complete this Holiday Assistance Consent form and return it to school by Friday, October 28, 2022.
Fun Run
Glacier Ridge would like to thank Jackie Dracup and Amber Kapocius for heading this committee. Their efforts brought such joy to our students on the day of the event!
We hope all our Polar Bears had an AMAZING Fun Run last Thursday! It was the perfect day with the most perfect weather! The kids LOVED the addition of FOUR inflatables this year and LOVED watching Ms. Thomas being silly stringed, Mrs. Reinhardt being water blasted, and Dr. Gruper being slimed! Linked here is a recap of our winners! Once again, the Fun Run Committee would like to thank EVERYONE for supporting our school, students, staff, and community. Please take a look on the back of your student's Fun Run shirt to see all the extremely generous businesses that sponsored the 4th Annual Glacier Ridge Fun Run! Feel free to join the GR Parents facebook group to see all the amazing photos taken!
School Directory
Did you know that Glacier Ridge is not able to provide student information to parents for birthday invites, play dates, parent contacts, teacher favorites, teacher wishlists, etc? Good news, the PTA is able to collect the information from ALL parents and provide a School Directory! We also have asked the Glacier Ridge staff to provide a list of their favorite things, from flowers, snacks, candy, etc. We even asked for their Amazon wishlists for their classrooms! The PTA will collect the information for parents, put it all together, and have it printed! Please note EVERYONE can enter their student's info, but you must be a PTA member to receive the directory. As a member you are not obligated to join meetings or volunteer. By just joining the PTA you are showing your support for the school, students, staff and PTA. You also will receive the school directory! No other obligations! So, please make sure to fill out the directory information and become a PTA member! You can choose what information is provided for your student! Directories will be sent home with PTA member's student in November.

OLSAT and NNAT for Grades 3rd & 5th
Between October 3rd and October 21st, third and fifth grade students at all District 47 elementary schools will take the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT 8) or the Naglieri Nonverbal Test (NNAT).The OLSAT, a widely used measure of abstract thinking and reasoning ability, assesses students’ verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal skills. This year, the OLSAT test will be administered online (rather than paper/pencil) and will take approximately one hour. Teachers use test results to assess students’ learning strengths, predict success in school, and assist in the identification process for admission to the district's extended curriculum program. Based on language proficiency, some English Language Learner students may benefit from participating in the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT) rather than OLSAT. Such determinations are made by individual school teams. The NNAT is a nonverbal measure of cognitive ability and reasoning used in the identification of gifted and talented students. This year, the NNAT will be administered online (rather than paper/pencil) and will take approximately 30 minutes. Additional information about specific OLSAT or NNAT assessment dates may be provided by your child’s teacher. Please contact the school should you have additional questions regarding OLSAT or NNAT assessments.
