CVU Nordic News

Week of Nov 9

Season Information

All skiers and parents/guardians: please read the new Parent Skier Information Letter for 2020-21 . New COVID guidelines and safety changes are in red font.

We still do not have a schedule for the season. As you can imagine there are numerous challenges this year. I hope to have a schedule in the next few weeks and will publish it as soon as I have it.

It is looking like most of our races will be during the week, and definitely won't start until after Jan 11. This opens up the possibility to compete in some Vermont races being hosted by the New England Nordic Ski Association (NENSA) and Craftsbury Outdoor Center. I've put together some information for those interested in racing before Jan 11 and in the new Vermont Cup series (taking place of Eastern Cup races for Vermont skiers). These races do require memberships in NENSA and US Ski and Snowboard (details in link).

Sign Up for the Team Roster and Fill out School Form Relef

Be sure to get on the team roster using this google form

And don't forget to fill out the school's online Form ReLeaf sign up

Skiers will not be able to attend practice until they have completed Form ReLeaf with the school.

Equipment Requirements

As we thought, Nordic ski equipment has been in high demand already this season. If you still need equipment I suggest you get into the Skirack asap.

I've put together this document to help new families navigate the equipment waters, please email me if you have any questions. I've also added information to our webpage

We do get a team discount on equipment at the Skirack in Burlington. This applies to equipment and accessories. The store is encouraging folks to preview equipment online at or to call the store to talk with one of the Nordic experts prior to visiting the store. They can even help folks purchase equipment over the phone or via email for in-store pickup.

Lease Packages

Skirack also offers lease packages for new skiers or those not wanting to purchase their own equipment. Details can be found here. Again, get in early to get your gear, last year they ran out of lease equipment!

NordSki aka Leigh Mallory- former CHS Nordic coach and AD.

Leigh sells close out equipment from the top ski companies to local skiers at a great deal. All the equipment is new, just different graphics ect. Most years he sells at the ski skate sales, this year he is working out of his barn. Contact information for him: or 238-3455.

Team Clothing

I have placed the first order for the red swix jacket and black swix pants, a second order will be placed next week. If you are still interested in ordering any team clothing you can still do so- just fill out this form.

The CVU Nordic Neck Gaiters are in! I have them in room 200. Each gaiter is $15. You can pay with cash, check (payable to Sarah Strack) or Venmo (Sarah-Strack-2, let me know if you need more info for that)

I also have 15 red Toko hats and 2 black Skida headbands for sale- all in my room. $15 each payable with cash, check (payable to Sarah Strack) or Venmo (Sarah-Strack-2)

Online Auction Fundraiser

I've set the dates for the Online Auction. Please have all items in by the end of the first week of practice- Friday, Dec 4.

The auction will go live Saturday, Dec 5 and run until the evening of Wednesday, Dec 16.

On Dec 17th, I need help organizing items and mailing what we can to winners. On Dec 18th we will hold pick up hours at outside at CVU from 3-6pm. Then we may need to drop items off directly for people. If any parents who have done this in the past have any ideas for getting winning items to winners, please email me!

Remember to use this sheet to sign up for a company to silicate for a donation. And if you are donating $75 instead of asking for a company for a donation, we ask you use the money to purchase a gift card to a local business.

Why do we need a fundraiser? Nordic skis need wax each race to be fast. The wax needs to be appropriate for the snow conditions and temperature. This is for both the glide wax (to glide smoothly over the snow) and kick wax (for classic skiing to kick forward). CVU supplies all the wax and the equipment to put the wax on and scrape off to our team. Additionally, all Vermont High School Nordic Programs have now adopted a No Fluoro (PFOAS) wax policy for both glide and kick wax (new this season). This means CVU needs to replace several waxes we have traditionally used with new fluoro - free versions. Note: while this is financial investment, moving away from fluoro waxes is necessary for the environment and the health of coaches when applying these waxes.

Early Season Optional Practices

Now that we know we are having a season, and within a few weeks of that season starting, the CVU coaches can not run early season practices per VPA rules.

Seniors- we are looking to you to help lead some early season practices after school. Email Sarah if you are interested in doing so.
