Personalized Skill Development and Social Connections for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Central Illinois

What's today's ECVI Connection?

Voting Independently

At ECVI, we wanted our students to be aware of the accessible voting machine that is available at all voting polling places. Last year, we invited a Sangamon County representative to demonstrate for our students how to use the accessible voting machine to vote independently. It was easy to use and very helpful for them.

An accessible voting machine is an electronic tool that allows users with disabilities to vote using assistive technology. While they are primarily used for people with visual impairments, they can also be used by people who are unable to mark a traditional ballot by themselves due to physical or neurological disability. Accessible voting machines are available at all polling places and for all types of elections, so users do not need to travel to a special polling place to use them.

Our mission at ECVI is to help individuals with visual impairments to maintain their independence in all aspects of life. We hope that this information will be helpful to anyone who experiences visual impairment to express their American right by voting privately and independently.
