Ms. Gebhard's 1st Grade Class
Make Yourself Proud!
Classroom Update
We had a good week getting back into the swing of things after our holiday break! It was great to see everyone coming in well rested and refreshed.
We are starting to learn about force and motion in science. We have an exciting activity planned for Friday, January 22nd to help support our science lessons. Bricks 4 Kidz will be working with our class to build with legos to demonstrate force and motion in an excellent hands on activity. It is $3 per student for this special in class "field trip". If you are able to sponsor another student that is also much appreciated. I will be sending home a note this week that you can return with either a check made out to Claxton or cash (must be exact change).
You will notice in homework folders there is a new page of reading to practice reading fluency. A detailed letter is included on blue paper, so please review and start reading this passage in addition to your nightly reading for additional practice. Please let me know if there are any questions.
We are still in need of healthy snack donations. I could also use some more small coffee filters which we use to serve snack. Thank you in advance!

Our Learning Goals
Fundations: We will continue review our nk and ng glued sounds. We are working on words that include a glued sound and the suffix -s (for example: winks, rings)
Writing: Students will be choosing and writing about their own "how-to" topic this week.
Math: We are focusing on measurement. Students will measure and compare objects using paper clips and centimeter cubes.
Science: We will begin force and motion by demonstrating push and pull along with the forces of magnets.
