Important Information
- We only have two school days next week. I will not be sending another Friday folder home on Tuesday. There will be no newsletter next week.
- The homework that is in the Homework folder today is due on Thursday, December 1.
- The spelling test for the words in the Homework folder today will be on Friday, December 2.
- There is a letter from Mrs. Dunn about Flat Stanley in the Friday Folder. Please read it over and help your child write down the address of a friend or family member who would like to have Flat Stanley come and visit for a bit.
- Please make sure your child continues to read 20 minutes daily over Thanksgiving break. Your child should have at least one book completed at this point. Students are required to have a minimum of four books read by the time we leave for Christmas break.
Math
This week we spent a lot of time reviewing for our math test and practicing multiplication facts. The students enjoyed playing two new multiplication games: Multiplication Squares and Kaboom. They also had fun playing a fast-paced review game on a site called Quizizz. Please keep practicing math facts at home!
Language Arts
- Reading: We continued working on fact and opinion. Students will be reading to their 1st grade buddies again on Tuesday. Your child should have a picture book from the library to practice over the weekend. Please focus on fluency and expression.
- Writing: Mrs. Warner from the ISD joined us this week as a guest teacher. She helped us work on using a rubric to assess our own writing. Students worked hard on making changes to their personal narratives. The final drafts were wrapped up on Friday.
- Grammar: We continued to work on verb tenses and focused on irregular verbs in the past tense.
- Reading Homework: Students are doing a great job reading! A few of the favorite titles so far have been "Ghosts" and "Kid Owner." Please be sure your child continues to read 20 minutes a day over Thanksgiving break. Your child should have at least one book completed at this point. Students are required to have a minimum of four books read by the time we leave for Christmas break.
Science and Social Studies
Science-
We continued to read and learn about how animals respond to their environment. We learned more about how information is taken in, travels to the brain, and nerves carry messages from the brain and spinal cord to muscles. Students showed their understanding of this process by drawing a diagram of an animal seeing a mouse, and explaining how the animal would respond.
Social Studies-
We read the book Flat Stanley. The students are excited to send their Stanley in the mail. Please see the note in the Friday Folder explaining this activity.
