Water for South Sudan Fundraiser
Ms. Fidler’s fifth-grade class read the book, A Long Walk To Water, by a famous author Linda Sue Park. It’s based on a true story about a boy named Salva Dut. His village was bombed in a terrible war. He lost all he had: water, a roof over his head, and even family. He had to walk for years, across unbearable deserts, with only strangers as guides.
Years later, as a refugee in the United States has gotten back on his feet. Although he is alive and well now, he remembers what it was like to not have anything. He wanted to help give back to his country, and he did. Salva started a program called, “Water For South Sudan”; you can find out more about Salva and his organization at http://www.waterforsouthsudan.org/.
That’s what inspired our class to have a fundraiser. Our goal, as a class is to raise 1,000 dollars. That amount builds a well that provides clean water for one-hundred people everyday. How can you help?
You can donate bottles and cans to the cause by placing them in the collection box in the school lobby.
Make an online donation at https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/waterforsouthsudan
Please include “Montclair Elementary” in the donations for school & organization fundraisers box.
Thank you for your support!
