FAREWELL TO A COUPLE OF AMAZING VOLUNTEERS!
Encino Park Parents,
Today we said farewell to 2 of our long time mentors, Colonel Miller and his wife Judith Miller. They have been involved with Encino Park Elementary for 8+ years mentoring several students each year with a few at Johnson now. Along with mentoring, Colonel Miller has also been a vocal advocate for NEISD and supported several programs here at Encino. We will truly miss him and his wife as they relocate to Arizona to be close to family. Arizona is getting a great couple.
Through their mentoring efforts they have touched the lives of several students on a personal level. If you are interested in learning more about mentoring please contact myself or Mrs. Dimas.
Have a Wonderful Evening!
James Miller, Principal of Encino Park Elementary School

Fall Photo Retakes November 1
Student Fall Photos have been distributed. For those of you who did not prepay, a proof was sent home and you may order per the instructions on the proof if you so choose. If you are not satisfied with your child's photo, please keep the photo and send it with your child on November 1, when retakes will be taken. The photo will be payment for the new photo. For those students who are new since photos were taken or were absent on picture day, you may have your photo taken on November 1. Flyers will be sent home on October 30 to those new students and those who were absent. Teachers will be given a few extra flyers, so please contact either your child's teacher or the office for an order form/flyer.
Have a great day!

Children's Mobile Clinic - Student Flu Shots
This year Encino Park will be hosting the Children’s Mobile Unit from The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio as they offer flu vaccines to students on the morning of Monday, October 30th. A written consent packet must be filled out by the parent/guardian for the vaccine to be given during the school morning. Please contact the clinic in person, by phone, or by email to get the packet or have it sent home with your student. This immunization opportunity is optional and for students only.

Subway Kids Rock
The Encino Park Physical Education Department distributed Kids Rock Brochures to all students. Here is a quick overview of the program:
Subway Kids Rock San Antonio is an eight-week cumulative marathon training program capped by a non-competitive, non-timed one mile fun run for kids grades K-7th. Over the course of the 8 weeks, students will have run 25.2 miles with the final mile being run together on December 2nd. The students must register for the final mile.
Students will be rewarded with some cool stuff like a free San Antonio Zoo ticket, however, the ultimate goal is to get their hearts stronger and practice good, healthy habits.
Please encourage your child to place the brochure which they received last week on the refrigerator to keep track of their miles and avoid losing it.
If you have any comments, questions, or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact Coach Ryan Hendricks at r-hendr@neisd.net.
Counselors' Corner
Clarity Child Guidance Center has partnered with NEISD Guidance Services to host Strong Minds Happy Hearts on Nov. 11 at NEISD Community Education Center, 8750 Tesoro Drive, San Antonio, TX 78217 from 8:30-11:30. A light breakfast will be served at 8:30. There will be a conversation on children's mental and emotional wellness. Childcare will be provided. Please see the attached flyer for more details.
Do you enjoy interacting with children? Do you have 30 minutes a week to give to a child? Do you have a favorite hobby you are willing to share with others? Do you enjoy making a DIFFERENCE in the world?
If so, then Encino Park has the perfect opportunity for you to get involved with our school and help our students. We have students who need academic support, a mentor to talk to, play games, or do crafts. We would LOVE to have you on campus.
If you are interested in this opportunity, please follow this link to sign up as a volunteer https://portal.neisd.net/vchrc/Default.aspx?SOURCE=V and contact the school counselors, Olga Dimas odimas@neisd.net and Lauren Lichte llicht@neisd.net.

Autism Blanket Drive
On behalf of the Gaston & Rogers Family, Encino Park ES will be collecting used blankets to contribute to the Guinness World Record for the largest blanket fort for the Autism Uncovered event being held Saturday, November 18th, 2017 at Toyota Field.
Autism Uncovered is a community event created to bring awareness to the importance of early intervention and the growing need for autism services in San Antonio by building the world's largest blanket fort.
Autism now affects more children than childhood cancer, AIDS or diabetes combined. While there isn’t a cure for autism, early diagnosis and treatment can improve a child’s ability to communicate, learn, and become an independent adult. In the San Antonio area, the availability of autism services has not grown at the same rate as the need. In fact, for every 5 children diagnosed with autism, only 1 has access to treatment. Together, we can change this.
Used blanket donations may be dropped off in the front foyer of the school in the designated donation box beginning Monday, October 30th, 2017 through Friday, November 10th, 2017.
Thank you in advance for your used blanket donations and helping to spread Autism Awareness.
