Dear Tashua Families,

It has been another fabulous week at Tashua School! It was wonderful to see all the smiles on the students' faces for our Picture Day. We are excited to be ending the week with our Back-to-School Picnic hosted by the Father's Club this evening from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on the playground. We look forward to seeing many of you tonight!

Throughout the week, I had the opportunity to visit each grade level and read the book, Go Get 'Em Tiger by Sabrina Moyle. This book encourages students to be the best they can be and to responsible for their actions, and not to be discouraged by the obstacles in their way - there will be some challenges we face day to day, but those challenges can make us stronger! If you would like to listen to this meaningful story with your family, which expresses the importance of having G - R - I -T and showing empathy and kindness towards each other, please use the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFecW0xm2To

During our first assembly, we also spent time reviewing some of our school policies, safety procedures and talking about our school pledge, while giving examples of each character trait to help them to gain a better understanding of the desired behaviors. I encourage you to discuss these traits with your children at home too!

I would also like to give a special thank you to Tashua Father's Club, especially Chris Solustri and Frank Squiccimarro, for helping our students stay safe by painting paw prints in blue and orange on our sidewalk. These prints will act as a guide to help student stay safely away from the buses.

As we continue to make Tashua a safe learning environment, please be reminded not to slow down or stop to wave at children when you are passing by the playground area during the recess hours. This is scary for children when they do not recognize the individual and they frequently report fears of stranger danger.

Further, please be sure to avoid turning left off of Stonehouse road in the mornings and afternoons to access the parent drop-off/pick-up circle. The parent drop-off/pick-up circle should only be accessed by entering off of Dayton Road. We strongly request that you refrain from making unsafe 3-point turns.

Lastly, when you are visiting the school, please be prepared to show a photo ID. We thank you for your cooperation!

As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or good news to share, please feel free to email me at NeumeyeJ@trumbullps.org or contact me at school at 203-452-4433.

Kind regards,

Mrs. Neumeyer

CHET Dream Big

The CHET Dream Big! Competition will launch on September 7! This competition is brought to you by the Connecticut State Treasurer’s Office as Trustee of the Connecticut Higher Education Trust (CHET). Dream Big! is open to all Connecticut residents in grades K-12.

We need your help to make sure students and their families know about this opportunity to win contributions to their CHET 529 college savings plans!

This year, the Dream Big! Competition prizes have increased in value. We will be awarding more than $450,000 in CHET 529 College Savings Plan – Direct Plan (“CHET 529 Direct Plan”) account contributions to students in grades K-12 and technology prizes to schools. For the prize-winning students, we will be awarding:

  • Three $25,000 prizes
  • 15 $7,500 prizes
  • 240 $500 prizes

To enter, students are asked to answer, in the form of a drawing, short essay or video, a question focusing on their dreams for the future (depending on their Grade Level Group, as defined in the Competition Official Rules). Submissions must be uploaded by 11:59 p.m. on October 21. For program details, rules and regulations, and to enter, visit:

www.ChetDreamBig.com And this year, entering is easier than ever!

Your school could win a prize too! Each school in Connecticut that is represented by at least one student entry will be eligible for a random drawing for a technology prize worth $7,500. A total of 20 schools will win a technology prize – and your school could be one of them! Please see the 2022 Competition Official Rules for more information on prize structure and awards.

While students can enter online, we are also sending you paper applications and promotional materials in the mail. We encourage you to share this information with your teachers, students and their families and consider making Dream Big! an activity in your classrooms as you begin your school year. Entries must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on October 21. There is no cost to enter. If you have any questions, please email dreambiginfo@dja.com.

Thank you for your support!
The CHET Dream Big! Competition Team

Kindergarten students had made a fine transition!! They’ve learned how to unpack their backpacks independently and continue to practice classroom routines. They have been working hard to write their name with an uppercase letter to start and the rest lowercase.

In math, students have been sorting shoes based on different attributes: color, straps, laces, etc. In reading, students learned how to read with a partner: sit side-by-side, put one book in the middle and see-saw read.

Grade 3

Many exciting things are happening in Grade 3!

In reading, the students are trying to get used to the reader’s workshop model and they have been learning about how to set up for their success in reading. In writing, we are writing personal narratives where the students are the storytellers. While in math, we have been learning about skip counting and how grouping sets of objects to determine the answers to multiplication and division problems. We did begin our Weather Unit this week and we have been focusing on the different weather conditions in the world and some of the tools that are used to measure them.
