The Lion Report is designed to let you know about the great things that have been happening in Castleberry ISD as it relates to Guidance Services and opportunities for Student Advancement that we provide our students. Additionally, it will serve as a planning piece so that no one misses any deadlines or great opportunities.

***SCHOLARSHIPS - A Special Edition of the Lion Report ***

This special edition of the Lion Report is designed to help Castleberry Seniors locate and apply for scholarship opportunities that are available within the Castleberry and River Oaks community, as well as in Tarrant County and across the state. Hard copies of these applications can also be obtained by coming the CHS Guidance Office, or by emailing Mrs. Sheehan at sheehant@castleberryisd.net

Scholarships Opportunities for Castleberry Seniors

Arthur Courtade Memorial Scholarship - Due April 24th

The Arthur Courtade Scholarship is awarded in honor of Arthur Courtade. This scholarship is awarded to the student with the highest GPA that is attending Texas A&M University in the fall. This is an annual scholarship in the amount of $500.


Please check your Class of 2018 announcements in Canvas or see your counselor or Mrs. Sheehan for an application in the Guidance Office. Applications are due by April 24th - Recipient Announced on May 17th.

Bank of Texas Scholarships

The Bank of Texas awards two scholarships annually to CHS seniors that have excelled in, and/or plan to major in the areas of Business, Marketing, or Finance.


This application is available on Canvas as well as in the Guidance Office. Completed application and attachments are due to Mrs. Sheehan by May 24th.

Bakintas Memorial Scholarship - Due April 24th ($350 award)

The Bakintas Memorial Scholarship is named after a former Castleberry Elementary teacher that devoted many years to Castleberry students and the community of River Oaks. This is a $350 scholarship that is awarded by the CISD scholarship committee. Applications for this scholarship are available in the Guidance Office at CHS, or on the Class of 2018 Announcements on Canvas. Applications are due to Mrs. Sheehan or your counselor on April 24th - Recipient Announced on May 17th.

Castleberry Athletic Booster Club Scholarship - Deadline April 14th

Castleberry Athletic Booster Club


2018 College Scholarship Guidelines and Application


This fund consists of $4,000.00, which is divided into four equal scholarships of $1,000.00.


These scholarships are given annually to four athletes. (If a scholarship is not awarded the monies will be deposited in the CABC General Fund for the following year)


The scholarships are determined by a Scholarship Committee consisting of 5 members of the local community such as ministers, city officials, business owners etc. A family member of a student that is applying for the scholarship may not serve on the Scholarship Board.


The Executive Director of Student Services will present the essays and qualifying criteria to the committee for selection minus the applicant’s name in an effort to insure a fair and meritorious selection process.


The disbursement of the scholarship will be a check made out to the University, Junior College or Trade School the student is attending in $500.00 increments per semester. All scholarship winners must submit in writing the students full name, id#, attending university/ college name and address to which the scholarship will be sent.


The scholarship will be honored for 9 months after graduation. If the scholarship monies are not used in 9 months the monies will be placed back into the CABC general fund.


The President of CABC will notify the Superintendent’s office of who is to receive scholarships. Upon proof of enrollment to CABC and the Superintendent’s office, a check can be issued.


Criteria for Selection


The applying student must have attended Castleberry High School for at least two years.


The applying student must be a graduating senior in the year they apply.


The applying student and their parent/guardian must be a member of the CABC for at least 6 school months of the applying student’s senior year.


The applying student must have lettered in a sport during the current year.


A parent/guardian (or adult relative/mentor) of the applying student shall complete 30 volunteer hours of the applying student’s senior year. Note: A student may volunteer themselves to earn the 30 volunteer hours needed for qualification.


The applying student cannot be found in violation of standards of conduct set forth by the Athletic Department or the School District.


School Attendance must be acceptable.


School Conduct must be acceptable.


CHS Athletic department will be responsible for confirming eligibility of the applying student prior to passing application on to the Scholarship Committee for selection.

Castleberry Band Booster Club Scholarship - Applications Due

Each CHS Band Senior received a copy of this scholarship application from the band director. If you have questions related to this scholarship you can speak with Mr. Morales or Ms. Crawford the Director of Fine Arts for CISD.

Castleberry Exes Association Scholarship - Deadline is April 24th

The Castleberry High School Exes Association is currently accepting Scholarship Applications from CHS Seniors planning to seek post-secondary education next year after graduation. Generally they give 2-3 scholarship of $500-$1000 depending on the applicants and the year. If you are interested in applying for this scholarship, please prepare the following:


1. A completed Application (available in Guidance Office/Attached) with the following:


2. A short paragraph of why you should receive a scholarship from the Castleberry High School Exes Association.


3. A resume

Winners will be announced prior to the Senior Awards on Thursday, May 17th at 2PM in the Auditorium

Dr. Bob Mullen Scholarship - $1,000

The Bob Mullen Scholarship is awarded annually to a CHS senior who has excelled in the area of musical arts. Applications are available from Mr. Morales or Ms. Crawford in the Fine Arts office. Applications have been passed out to seniors by their directors.

Fireman's 5K Scholarships - Due May 1st

2018 Firemen's College Scholarship

FIVE - $2,000 scholarships available


Criteria for Selection:


1. The applying student must be a graduating senior of Castleberry High School

OR

2. A graduating senior whose parent is a firefighter for the River Oaks Fire Department or the Fort Worth Fire Department.


Please see application packet attached for a total list of criteria.


Completed application packages, including essay, must be delivered to the Fireman's 5K foundation (or postmarked no later than May 1st)

Gary & Kaye Jones Scholarship - Due April 24th ($1,000 award)

The Gary & Kaye Jones Scholarship is sponsored by long-time School Superintendent, Gary Jones, and his wife & fellow community advocate Kaye.


This $1,000 scholarship is directed toward either the child of a CISD employee, or a students that has attended CISD for entire educational career. Applicants must be in academic good standing and have above average attendance. Please see your counselor for application and additional information.

Gene Guy Scholarship - Applications Due April 24th ($750 award)

The John L "Gene" Guy Memorial Scholarship honors a former district administrator that served for many years in the financial services department at Castleberry ISD. This is a $750 scholarship that is awarded by the Castleberry ISD scholarship committee. Applications are available in the Guidance Office or on Canvas. Applications are due on April 24th to your counselor or Mrs. Sheehan.

Hispanic Real Estate Brokers Association Scholarship - Due May 7th

HREBA's mission is to provide high quality home ownership and financial education to the low and moderate income community. To identify and provide training opportunities for real estate professionals to better serve this community.


HREBA is providing TWO $1,000 scholarships


Scholarship Application Instructions:

1. Complete the Scholarship Application Form (please print)

2. Attach an essay explaining "the importance of home ownership to you and your family"

3. Complete the two above items and submit them to your counselor or Mrs. Sheehan by no later than May 7th.

Katherine Murray Memorial Scholarship - Applications Due April 24th ($500 award)

Katherine Murray was a long time Castleberry High School cheerleader sponsor and coach that donated countless time and energy to CHS. The Katherine Murray Memorial Scholarship is a $500 award that is awarded annually to an outstanding senior cheerleader. Applications for this scholarship are available from the Guidance Office or on Canvas. Applications are due to Mrs. Sheehan by April 24th. If you are a CHS Senior Cheerleaders, please apply!

Lions Club of River Oaks Scholarship - $1,000

The River Oaks Lions Club has approved a scholarship to be awarded this year. The details are listed below, along with a link to the online application. The Loveless/Young Scholarship is awarded annually in memory of two former Castleberry ISD teachers. This $500 scholarship is presented to a senior that excels in Language Arts and/or History. Applications are available in the Guidance Office, and are due April 24th to Mrs. Sheehan.

Mirabeau B. Lamar Scholarship

The Mirabeau B. Lamar Scholarship is an annual scholarship given to the Valedictorian or Salutatorian of the graduating class at Castleberry High School. There is no application for this, as the recipient is chosen off of GPA and class rank and need, by the Masonic Lodge. This is a one-time scholarship that is sponsored and paid for by the River Oaks Masonic Lodge.

Order of The Eastern Star Scholarship - Due April 24th

The Castleberry Chapter of the Order of The Eastern Star is celebrating their 40th year of providing scholarship to our Castleberry High School graduates. To date the chapter has paid over $20,000 in cash awards to help CHS seniors begin their post-secondary education and follow their dreams. In that vein, The Order of the Eastern Star invites you to apply for their annual $500 Scholarship


Qualifications:


Proof of good attendance

GPA of 3.0 or higher

Letter of recommendation from a teacher

Letter of recommendation from a community leader or community service log

short essay about your future aspirations and plans

Redfin Scholarship - $2500 Applications Open May 1st - July 31st

Redfin is excited to re-open their $2,500 scholarship for another round of applications! Their team in Seattle takes great care to read every single essay and application received.

The $2,500 scholarship occurs twice a year and is open to high school seniors and current college students. We will accept submissions from May 1st through July 31st!

Simon Owens Memorial Scholarship - Application Due April 24th

The Simon Owens Memorial Scholarship is for a former Castleberry student, Simon Owens. Mr. Owens family wishes to recognize Simon's potential and love for life by annually honoring a CHS graduate that has similar aspirations of following his/her dreams and seeking a post-secondary education. This is scholarship is in the amount of $500.


Deadline for this scholarship is April 24th. Copies of this application can be found in the Guidance Office or on the Class of 2018's Announcement page on Canvas.

Tarrant County Insurance Professionals - Deadline April 13th

The Tarrant County Insurance Professional Scholarship is now taking applications. Below is the criteria and instructions for completion.


The following conditions must be met before an applicant can be considered for a scholarship:


1. You must rank in the top third of your high school class


2. You must meet the entrance requirements of the college of your choice.


3. You must be a business or business related major continuing as a full time student in a Texas college/university.

If you meet the above conditions, please complete the application (available in counselor's office) and return it along with the following:


1. A recent transcript of your grades.


2. A letter of recommendation from two character references (educator, minister, business professional, etc.)


3. A brief resume of your educational background, including organizations in which you have been involved, community service, educational goals, and reasons why this scholarship should be awarded to you.

Wayne Land Memorial Scholarship - $500

The Wayne Land Memorial Scholarship was created by the Castleberry Board of Education to honor Wayne Land. Mr. Land served the students of Castleberry ISD as a member of the CISD Board of Education for 21 years, from 1983-2004

W. O. Barnes Memorial Scholarship - $500

The W.O. Barnes Memorial Scholarship is presented in memory of longtime Castleberry High School Principal and former Head Football Coach, W.O. Barnes. This $500 scholarship is presented to an outstanding athlete who excels and values academic success.
