The Georgia Parent Survey contains 24 questions and the data is used as part of the School Climate Star Rating by the Georgia Department of Education. All parents are encouraged to participate and may complete the survey using their personal computer, smartphone, or tablet. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. The Georgia Parent Survey is also available in Spanish. Parents may select the Spanish version within the survey. The Georgia Parent Survey can be accessed here.
Makerspaces in the Media Center
Our Media Center Makerspace is growing! We are expanding our BUILD station and need LEGOs. We currently have Knex pieces but would love LEGO blocks so our younger students can take advantage of our building challenges. If you have any LEGOs (or any other building blocks) that you can spare, please send them to Mrs. Hobbs in the Media Center. We appreciate all donations!
International Day
International Day Volunteers
We are excited to announce that this year’s International Day will be held on February 22nd from 9:00 to 2:30. International Day is a day where we celebrate all the different cultures that make Mashburn Elementary so special! We are having this celebration during the school day so all students can participate. We are looking for parents to volunteer to lead sessions, assist with sessions, or set up tables about their cultures with informational items including artifacts, pictures, traditional dress, etc. You do not have to commit to the entire time, but any assistance would be wonderful! Please fill out the volunteer form if you are interested in sharing your culture!
International Day Performances
Do you like to dance, sing, or perform? We are looking for students to represent their culture with traditional talents and perform during International Day. If you are interested or have questions, please email Katie Colson at Kcolson@forsyth.k12.ga.us! We are looking forward to seeing the talent that represents the different cultures at our school!

On March 7th, not only will we be having our STEM Night activities, but this year students will have the opportunity to participate in our Mashburn Science Fair. Students who participate in this year's Science Fair will need to ask an "I wonder" or "What would happen if" question, and conduct an experiment show their findings and results (Purpose, Research, Hypothesis, Experiment, Analysis, Conclusion). Students will also have the option to engineer or invent something that will have a purpose.
Presentations will be due on March 7th, and students will be able to present their projects to our judges on STEM Night.

7 Mindset Update
Are you showing SPARK today? In January, we focused on the 7 Mindset Attitude of Gratitude. We learned about treasuring yourself, being more grateful, thanking it forward, and elevating your perspective. In February, we will be focusing on the 7 Mindset Live to Give. We will be learning about stretching yourself, making a difference, receiving gracefully, and leaving a legacy.
Message from Nurse Jamie
Hello Blue Bear Parents!
We are currently in the middle of cold and flu season, it might be helpful to review our wellness and medication policy. Students must be fever free for 24 full hours without fever reducing medications before returning to school. The CDC defines a fever as 100.0 degrees F or higher. Students must be free of vomiting, and free from diarrhea for a full 24 hours before returning to school. Encouraging things such as covering sneezes and coughs with the inner elbow, frequent hand washing, and avoiding touching face/nose/eyes are all helpful in preventing the spread of contagious illnesses. If you would like your student to have medication (either prescription or over-the-counter) while at school, please review our policy, which is posted on our website:
https://www.forsyth.k12.ga.us/mashburn. Choose “Student Services”, then “School Nurse” to view. Most importantly, medication must be brought from an adult to either myself or the front office staff, with the required paperwork completed (also available on the school website) It is very important to note that for safety reasons, students are never to transport medication to or from school. If you would like to donate some supplies to the clinic, we always appreciate tissues, paper cups, small cans or bottles of ginger ale, and snack or sandwich size Ziploc style bags. We also welcome any size clean pull-on pants to keep the extra clothes closet stocked. Please feel free to call or email me with any questions or concerns you may have. The health and wellness of our students is my top priority. It is an honor to serve Mashburn Elementary!
Warmest Regards,
Jamie Troup BSN, RN
