Technology Information and Tips
YouTube
YouTube is blocked by the OPS filtering system, Securly. Students should not be accessing YouTube unless through school approved applications as directed by teachers.
Some students have found a loophole in the system and are accessing YouTube for non-school purposes. Our district Information Management Systems department is aware of the loophole. At school, there are procedures and routines in place to mitigate its usage along with consequences for not complying to the student Technology Usage Agreement.
We would appreciate your support in communicating your knowledge of this information to your student and encouraging them to remain on classroom content at school.
iPad Chargers
Please check with your student and ensure they have and are using their OPS provided iPad charger. Most non-Apple charging bricks do not have the power necessary to charge the student's iPad. Some can actually do the opposite and drain the battery or damage it.
If you find you need to purchase a new charging brick or brick and cable, they can be purchased at the main office. A full charger is $38 or $19 each if you just need a brick or just need a cable.
Arriving to school with a FULLY charged iPad will set your student up for a more successful day. Make this a part of your nightly routine!
High Five Highlight
This section of the bulletin will highlight one story featuring Buffett Bobcats staying true to these values.
Buffett's Dynamic Duo
If you walk through the halls at Buffett there's a good chance you will see one of these two students actively involved in something at our school. Whether it's recording news segments for BBTV, spraying hand sanitizer for students entering the bus loop, leading a leadership group in NJHS, or announcing the players at a volleyball game, Maurice and Katie do it all!
Recently, this dynamic duo was asked to be a part of introducing Omaha Public School's new website! This new state-of-the-art site comes as a direct result of the OPS Strategic Plan of Action Powered by Foresight. With nearly five million page views between Aug. 1, 2020, and Aug. 1, 2021, the district knows the website is a major source of information for students, families and staff.
The new website offers:
- quick access to our most popular pages with important information
- a cleaner, more intuitive design and navigation
- automatic translations in many of the district’s most represented languages
- pages that display effectively and efficiently on mobile devices
- AND a video of Maurice and Katie!
Maurice and Katie are the epitome of what it means to Be Trustworthy and Hardworking at school. We are so proud of them!
Check out their video below!
Code of Conduct: PAC Room
Access the Code of Conduct here
Buffett has two PAC room facilitators, Ms. Kennedy (5/6) and Ms. Sarnowski (7/8)
The PAC facilitator will keep parents informed by calling home every time a student visits the PAC room. In addition, the staff member will review and reteach the Life Skill expectations that were not met by the student. Follow-up with chronic offenders may include:
• a parent conference scheduled with the student’s administrator
• restricted participation in certain team or school activities
• extended PAC time • in-school suspension (ISS)
• suspension after school (SAS)
• suspension from school
Students who are assigned to the PAC room will not be able to attend after school activities and athletic competitions.
