Committee Meetings
Safety and Security
Officer Wiles--Will be coming to your classes this week for 5-10 minutes to introduce himself and talk about his role and responsibilities. Please help our kids know that he is another person they can trust to tell about things that are happening.
Great Decision by Missy Wright--Yesterday, Missy had a student whose nose started bleeding profusely on the bus coming back from South Point HS. She made the decision to have the bus stop at Sunset Park to have the student see the nurse and get things cleaned up. (It was a pretty bad nosebleed.) Please know that you are charged with making the wise choice in safety situations. For that situation in that case, it was a great decision.
Safety Reminders--Take your walkie talkie and red bags wherever you go. All doors need to be closed throughout the day.
Safety Committee--Lisa Smith (Chair), Maggie Pezzello, Kathy Guarino, Tracy Mitchell, Javier Marin, Amy Giles, Melinda Reid, Martha Miller
Recruitment and Retention
Wes Wiles--We want to welcome him as our new School Security Officer. (We will cal him Officer Wiles.) He is the former Assistant Chief of Police for Winthrop and served for a number of years on the Rock Hill Police Department. He is always accessible by walkie talkie and his office is the middle office in the guidance suite.
Fall Choice Programs Fair--Will be Monday, December 2 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Kenneth Monroe Transformation Center on Saluda Streeet. Please put on your calendar.
Rock Hill Schools Programs EXPO--Will be Saturday, January 25 from 10:00-12:00 (Location TBD). Both of these events will be places where we highlight our immersion program for parents.
Recruitment and Retention Committee--Manon Lopes, Yahaira Reddy Sindgedi, Lucia Hoyle, Missy Wright, Enrique Saavedra, Alberto Leon (Chair), Chana Sanders
Student Achievement
SLO's--Here are some considerations as you begin working on your SLO in SC LEAD. Your SLO needs to be an area of growth for you and your students. We reviewed lots of data for last year and you now have Fall MAP Data and Reading Level Data available for reference. This information should guide you in an area of need to help your students grow more. For your Pre and Post Test, please use any of the following: a formative Pre/Post you create, monthly instructional reading levels, or strand scores in MAP for Fall and Winter or Winter and Spring. (It would be a good idea to look at your Fall MAP Strand Data to see areas of weakness but that is truly your choice.) Remember if you do a team SLO, you will also do a professional goal indicating how you will improve to help your students improve in that area. I know that writing these up are not fun. Try to use it as a means for working on your skills as a teacher. Often, we focus our energy on way to many things and then wonder why we never hit the target. This is a chance to narrow your focus on an area to help you and your kids improve. You can start putting in information in SC Lead. I have put a tab for "Adding an SLO in SC Lead" under the Personnel tab in our Cherry Park Faculty Course in Canvas. This can help guide you in the process.

Culture
Field Trip Yesterday--While there were lots of things out of our control, there were some things in our control where I think we could make some improvements. Here are some thoughts for consideration. 1. Lunch Times--If you need to swap lunch times with a grade level, please talk with the grade chair and Sonya McCrorey to see if that will work. If it does, be sure parents (and the office) are informed ahead of time in case they plan to come eat with their child. 2. Backup Plans--For field trips, please think through what you would do if someone has a sub or a teacher has to be out. If we know in advance, we can try to help send extra hands to help out. 3. Communication with Office--Please, please, please communicate your plans and any changes to the office. If they know, they can help respond to parent situations and help you avoid major issues. 4. Kids Staying Behind--The district rule is that all kids go on trips. We will have situations where parents request their kids not to go. When that happens, please coordinate with other grade levels ahead of time to have kids be in their classes. What I learned yesterday is that even for local trips, we need to plan well, communicate effectively, and have backup plans. Given the volume of students we are moving for trips, we want to do all we can to help them be a success (and reduce our own stress.)
United Way--Please consider giving to this organization that helps make a difference in our community and families. Forms are due to Angela Neal by Friday, October 11.
School Culture Committee--Claudia Notaro, Rocio Kiker, Sonia Garces, Bonnie Jean Avilez (Chair), Aida Garcia, Heather McNay, Kristina Marshall, Cara Rezzai
Communication
Communication Tools--Every grade level and area has someone from the Communication Committee who can now send messages to parents through Parentlink. Please be thoughtful about how we use that to best communicate information to our families.
Communication Committee--Jordan Pope, Sara Brenton (Chair), Tanjie Woods, Emily Parrish, Michelle Preston, Jenn Fant, Molly Garrard, Zulmarie Allison
