U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION NATIONWIDE CALL FOR STUDENT PERFORMING ARTISTS
The U.S. Department of Education is seeking student performing artists (such as bands, choirs, color guards, dancers, drumlines, poets/spoken word artists, soloists, theatrical performers) currently enrolled in elementary, middle, or high schools, who exemplify resilience, diversity, and excellence and are interested in showcasing their talent. No formal training or experience is necessary.

Your challenge is to research past and future impacts of climate-related hazards in your community, including drought, wildfire, flooding, and extreme heat, then develop a proposed action to help build a more resilient community.

This challenge is to learn about radioisotope power systems — a type of nuclear battery key to many of NASA’s deep-space missions — and then dream up a new mission that would use this type of power to explore a place with very little light.

January 2024 Teacher Deadlines
Energy in STEM Lesson Plan Competition K-12th grades
The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) wants to see how you incorporate topics involving energy into your lesson plans. Teachers of any grade level or subject are invited to submit a STEM lesson plan that incorporates an energy-related concept.
THREE teachers who submit lesson plans will be selected to receive mini-grants up to $1,500 to help buy equipment for their classroom!
Deadline: Wednesday, January 31st, 2024, on or before 11:59 P.M. Eastern Time

January Social Media Contest
The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) wants to hear how you appropriately incorporate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into your classrooms! This could include AI tools you use to help in your teaching, how your students use AI in your class, or how you teach students about AI. To enter the contest, follow ORISE on social media, fill out this (very short) survey, and comment your answer on the post!

The National Summer Teacher Institute (NSTI) is a multi-day professional development training opportunity designed to support elementary, middle, and high school teachers as they increase their knowledge of concepts of making, inventing, and intellectual property (IP) creation and protection.
NSTI is designed to help teachers inspire the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs. The program is open to eligible K-12 teachers nationwide. It combines experiential training tools, practices, and project-based learning models.
NSTI 2024 will take place July 21-26, 2024, at the USPTO Headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia.
