Notes from the classroom
As an educator I could not have been more pleased with the ownership the students took knowing their animal and their classmates. As we continue with January we will forge ahead completing our drafts of our animals. After completing the drafts, we will edit and then revise our books and finally publish on the Book Creator app. The final steps will be for students to make a representation of their animal. We should complete our research and editing process this week. We will most likely start on publishing our books the week of January 26. Our reading focus will also be on reading nonfiction.
Our work with aquatic animals will tie into science as we learn more about the affects of humans on the aquatic environment. This week in science lab students will look at trash and have to infer how this will harm animals in the environment.
In math we are focusing on data collections and ways to represent data. For homework this week, students were asked to design a survey and make a representation of the results. After making the representation students will write three stenches summarizing the data. Families are invited to see the presentations of the data on Friday, January 23 from 8:10-8:40 in the Primer classroom.
Our phonics lessons are still on long vowels which specific attention to long vowel E patterns ( A_E, EE, EA).
Finally, I am thrilled to see all of you at chapel in the upcoming days when the Primer students carry the cross. Please arrive a few minutes before 8:45 to check in at the office. Chapel starts at 8:45. Students will first ring the bell at the back of the chapel and then carry the cross. Then students will sit in the front row with with their family. This is such a special time thank you for being a part of it.
