Principal's Corner
Dear Families,
This has been an emotional week for our nation, to say the least. I give tremendous credit and thanks to our teachers for being there to support the students while they were still processing the news themselves. Teachers were given resources to help navigate any conversations or questions that may have arisen. I am including some resources for parents as well, as this of course continues to be at the center of the news cycle.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day
A reminder that there will be no school on Monday, January 18 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. All classes will be reading the story "Let the Children March" with guiding questions and prompts for reflection. We look forward to celebrating Black History Month in February which will include a deeper dive into Black history, NAAPID, and a community assembly.
MLK Children and Youth Program
Thank you to parent Tom Drake for sharing the following info:
The MLK Children & Youth Program celebrates the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by providing a day of activities and events designed specifically for children and teens in grades K-12. Throughout these memorable years, these activities have been filled with fun, creativity, dialogue, and entertainment and included storytelling, guided discussions and group projects, skits, rap poetry, and various musical performances. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will be facilitated virtually by professional educators and students at the University of Michigan School of Education.
